The Master's degree program in Biology combines a broad foundation in natural sciences with state-of-the-art knowledge and advanced experimental methodology within biology.

The MSc Biology programme is a collaboration between the Institute of Biology Leiden, Naturalis Biodiversity Center and the Institute of Environmental Sciences, resulting in a broad and diverse scope.

MSc in Biology line offers full 2-year education in biology. The study program for full-time training offers a complete education in biology, with special directions particularly in molecular biology (neurobiology, genetics, microbiology), and animal and plant ecology. Special directions from the second semester offer more laboratory practice in molecular biology or more courses in ecology. The basic subjects are presented in lectures, seminars, and laboratory or fieldwork. The program provides a wider view of the related scientific fields (biophysics, biological chemistry). The students will familiarize their knowledge with the most modern instrumentation in our new research center. It covers all aspects of education, research, and innovation in the fields of biomedical, natural, and environmental sciences. It also provides an opportunity to join the research work in 22 different research groups operating in the building.

The MSc program in Biology provides you with the opportunity to specialize in one or more of the areas of biology that you find most interesting. Because all students begin with a basic knowledge of biology, the teaching is at a high level right from the start. The Department of Biology at Aarhus University is popular among students and researchers from abroad. It is an active and international research environment.

Our faculty is the home of the 2016 Nobel laureate in Chemistry, Ben Feringa, and GELIFES is the home of the 2014 Spinoza Prize winner, Theunis Piersma! The MSc in Biology offers a combination of in-depth training and the opportunity for designing a tailor-made program. We specialize in Modelling in Life Sciences and focus on the study of the causes and consequences of Animal Behavior. You will also receive coaching by a personal mentor. It is possible to enroll in the Master's degree program four times a year (every half-semester).

The first year of the 4-semester-long programme consists of lectures, seminars and practical training in advanced genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, immunology, cell biology, microbiology and plant biology.

In MSc Global Conservation Biology, the world’s habitats are undergoing rapid transformation. The impacts of climate change are causing species extinction at an unprecedented rate. Conservation biology as a discipline looks at the science behind these changes – including the identification of ecosystems at risk, ways of conserving biodiversity, and the role of genetics and demography. 

The faculty of Biology offers graduate study programs for Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. These programs are intended for students who already have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Life Sciences, or a bachelor’s or master’s degree in another scientific field or Engineering, although in the latter case, some additional courses may be required.

This MSc prepares students with a background in mathematics and related fields for a PhD in Mathematical Biology or a research career in the biomedical sector. A wide range of topics are covered including mathematical oncology, ecological modeling, medical statistics, and population dynamics.

This one-year, full-time MSc Cancer Biology and Therapeutics course is designed to provide you with advanced knowledge, understanding and skills in the rapidly advancing field of Cancer Biology and Therapeutics. Our aim is to provide you with a breadth and depth of cancer-focused training that will make you a highly attractive candidate to start or continue a career within the healthcare sector and public/private sector research establishments.

The two-year selective Master's degree Program in Marine Biology focuses on life in our seas and oceans. Whether you are interested in biological oceanography, conservation of marine mammals, coastal marine ecology or genomics, we offer plenty opportunity to receive a well-founded, expansive research-focused academic training in marine biology. Together with your mentor (a professor in the marine biology Program) you will design your own tailored study Program fitting your personal preferences and career plans. The Program also offers a business and policy oriented track.

The MSc programme in One Health: Parasitology and Infection Biology is designed for students seeking training in parasite-borne infectious diseases that severely undermine: human health in the developing world and tropics; agri-food production systems globally (including plant health and animal health and welfare).
