The aim of MSc Biodiversity, Conservation, and Nature Recovery is to develop an advanced interdisciplinary understanding of the interconnections between the natural environment, ecosystems, human health, and well-being. On completion of this MSc program, graduates should be equipped with the necessary conservation skills, interdisciplinary outlook, and in-depth subject knowledge for employment in conservation-related subjects.

The master's degree in Biodiversity, Conservation, and Environmental Quality (BCEQ), entirely taught in English, prepares the highly qualified figure of environmental biologist expert in the multiple aspects of biodiversity, aimed at nature conservation and the assessment of environmental quality.

The M.Sc. in Biodiversity Conservation program has a duration of 3 academic semesters (and up to 8 semesters for part-time study) and requires the completion of 90 ECTS. It combines a course component of 60 ECTS in total for which each student can choose from a list of Restricted Elective Courses (see Postgraduate Prospectus) as the series of compulsory departmental postgraduate seminars.

M.Sc. in Ecology and Nature Conservation program provides students with a theoretical background in ecology and evolution, with emphasis on biodiversity, community dynamics, and organism-level processes, combined with methodological knowledge, including statistics, mathematics, model development, and assessment procedures specific to nature conservation and management.

The Master of Biology: Global Change Biology focuses on the underlying drivers and the far-reaching consequences of global change. You will learn about the multifaceted nature of global change, encompassing changes in climate, land use and biogeochemical cycles; how human activities influence ecosystems and biodiversity, and how such changes impact all levels of biological organisation, from molecules to ecosystems.

The Master's degree course in Bio- and Environmental Engineering focuses on deepening technical and scientific expertise in bio- and environmental engineering through specialization in one of the two subject areas. The focus of the training is on environmental process engineering, environmental biotechnology, bioenergy production, plant planning and technology, bioanalysis of biologically active substances and the determination of the availability of these substances in the human body, and quality management.

Led by highly qualified, research-active lecturers, our MSc Wildlife Conservation will build your knowledge and practical skills to tackle complex issues surrounding our biodiversity crisis. You’ll study on our green Peel Park campus, minutes from Manchester city centre giving you the best of campus and city living. There will be plenty of opportunities to engage with the industry through networking events and collaboration projects.

This Master's provides deep knowledge about theory in conservation biology, including population dynamics in small populations and heterogeneous landscapes as well as conservation genetics. It provides insight into how habitat loss, habitat conversion and climate change affect biodiversity and how this feeds back on ecosystem services (e.g. pollination or biological control). There is an emphasis on developing a deep understanding of and critically evaluating conservation theory and tools in conservation, and on developing skills that can be of use both in practical conservation work and in research. Conservation biology professionals are needed and employed by governmental agencies, municipalities, non-governmental organisations and private consultancies. The programme also provides a solid ground for PhD studies.

USF St. Petersburg has announced the new Master of Science in Conservation Biology degree program, which will launch in Fall 2017. The addition of the new graduate program—the only M.S. thesis-based degree of its kind in the State University System—will complement the institution’s thriving undergraduate degree program in biology, which has grown to include more than 760 enrolled students since its Fall 2012 inception.
