The primary objective of our Clinical Psychology master’s specialisation is to equip students with a strong theoretical foundation and essential skills for conducting clinical psychology research, assessments, and interventions. This programme focuses on imparting knowledge and expertise essential for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating various forms of psychopathology in adult populations.

The MSc in Behavioral and Cognitive Neurosciences (Research) offers integrated teaching by top researchers from three faculties in small groups, and students collaborate in stable cohorts during the 2 years. We also provide excellent research facilities including University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), NeuroImaging Center, and Center for Life Sciences. More than 75% of our students enroll in Ph.D. projects after graduation, and our program was awarded the 'Top Rated Program' label (Keuzegids Masters 2017).

Nature and nurture: how do they interact and correlate? Is health and wellbeing in our genes or is the environment the most important source of differences between people? And can we use DNA to predict our health? Both twin studies and molecular genetic studies have highlighted the influence of our genetic code on behavior and health. To adequately understand and influence behavior and health, we need to increase our knowledge of the way our genes play their part, by themselves and when interacting with our environment.

As a research master student you choose one of our three multidisciplinary themes. The theme-specific courses will give you a broad view on the theme and will introduce you to the unique perspectives of the theme-related specializations. In the course of the first semester you will choose your own specialization. It will enable you to tailor your master to the topics that you wish to engage in.

It takes the clarity of economic and game-theoretic decision analysis and combines it with the human factors of bounded rationality, biases, and emotions from psychology. You'll study different facets of both fields, ranging from the neuropsychological basis of decision-making to the mechanics behind decisions on a macro level. After completing the program, you'll be able to work on complex decision-making problems and you'll be well-equipped for a career in senior and executive positions.
