The MSc Applied Physics is a calendar year program intended for graduates of physical science and engineering. UL Physics works with companies such as Analog Devices, COOK Medical, Intel, Seagate and BorgWarner. This engagement advances science, develops new products and processes, and creates employment opportunities for our graduates.

The MSc in Applied Physics specializes in advanced materials at the renowned Zernike Institute, named after our Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Frits Zernike. The program gives access to the highly selective HTMS Honors Master, and nearly all of our graduates find relevant high-level jobs within 3 months after graduating. Our Master was awarded the 'Top Rated Program' label (Higher Education Guide 2017). The Master’s Degree Programme in Physics provided by the Faculty of Mathematics and Science is a two-year (120 ECTS) full-time programme taught in English. Applications for this master's degree programme can be submitted once a year in January, and once accepted, your studies will begin in September. The Masters of Science in Photonics (M.Sc. Photonics) and the new M.Sc. Quantum Science & Technology are Master's degree courses providing multidisciplinary coverage in the field of optics, photonics and quantum technology. The two-year programs both comprise four educational stages. The course schedules range from fundamental scientific subjects to application-oriented photonics and quantum engineering aspects. The programs are designed to incorporate students of different backgrounds and nationalities and provides them with a solid knowledge in optics, photonics and quantum technology for scientific research and for their upcoming applications in industry. The MS program in applied physics offers graduate courses in physics in collaboration with the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The program is designed to meet the demands of modern industry for young researchers with a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and electrodynamics that they can apply to problems in laser spectroscopy, photonics, magnetic resonance, and surface physics.

The program of study leading to the degree of Master of Science, while emphasizing continued work in basic physics, permits many options in several applied physics specialties.
