The M.S. degree in Anatomy and Neurobiology, is a unique program concentrating on the development of teaching skills in the biomedical sciences. Also known as Anatomy and Neurobiology Vesalius, this program offers small advanced teaching courses combined with one-on-one mentoring with experienced and award-winning faculty to provide students with extensive mentored teaching experience.

The modules presented emphasise clinically and surgically relevant anatomy, although they are not designed exclusively for clinicians.

Clinical Anatomy is a core component of undergraduate medical degree programs and programs allied to medicine such as radiography and physiotherapy. However, the relative amount of anatomy taught in these programs is considerably less than in years gone by, and there are limited opportunities across the UK (and further afield) for medical and dental students, including those enrolled in the Clinical Anatomy MSc, to gain an in-depth knowledge of human anatomy beyond their core programs.

The program is designed to provide a broad introduction to 400-level studies and is thus an important transitional link from undergraduate to postgraduate studies. The mission of the Alderson Broaddus University, College of Medical Science, School of Anatomical Science is to foster a continuing level of excellence in teaching anatomical disciplines to professional students in health-related and scientific fields while preparing them with the tools, and scientific knowledge needed to become future anatomical scientists and educators.

The School of Medicine's Division of Anatomy offers curricula leading to the Master of Science or the Doctor of Philosophy degree. The core curriculum offers a broad biomedical background. Course work provides opportunities for qualified students not only to study all aspects of human morphology from both didactic and investigative points of view but also to develop a special area of research interest. Study and research on other species and in other biomedical disciplines may be included in the student's curriculum. While working on a significant research problem, students are introduced to research methods through scientific literature and the laboratory. They acquire experience in scientific communication by participating in seminars, writing critical reviews, and reporting results of research experience either in thesis/dissertation form or as publishable/published papers. The Doctor of Philosophy degree is designed to prepare the graduate for a career in independent research and teaching in the university, clinical, biotechnological, or government environments. In addition to technical skills, doctoral degree students are expected to develop creativity and independence. The Master of Science degree provides content appropriate for persons preparing to teach at the secondary level or in related professional school areas, or for persons intending to pursue careers as research technicians.

The Master degree program is consist of 4 semesters. The first two semesters are consist of courses and thesis preparation; the last two semesters is consist of performing and writing the thesis.

An in-depth study of the human body Students receive a comprehensive education in the anatomical sciences through a program that fosters professional and intellectual development. Our curriculum offers opportunities to blend classroom learning with hands-on experiences such as research and teaching. Students gain extensive training in the macro-and microscopic structure of the entire human body through regional and systemic approaches that integrate virtual microscopy, problem-based learning, whole-body anatomical dissection, and three-dimensional neuroanatomical imaging.
