Studying cross-media means learning how to tell a story that unfolds in many directions. Our innovative Fine Art Mixed Media BA will give you the opportunity to explore and develop work across boundaries within the ever-expanding contemporary fine art disciplines. Our course enables you to work across disciplines or within the more traditionally defined areas of practice, while referencing relevant critical and theoretical debates. The two-year Master's track in Arts, Media and Literary Studies is a specialization within the Research Master's degree in Arts and Culture. Arts, Media and Literary Studies equips students with knowledge and skills to become researchers and experts on the role that the arts, literature and media play in society, now and in the past. The programme offers a rich multi- and interdisciplinary framework within which students can specialize in one of the following disciplines or combinations of disciplines, under close supervision of a highly qualified research faculty:

Then the Master’s track ‘Film and Contemporary Audiovisual Media’ is the right one for you. Within a year you can acquire a Master’s degree from one of the Top 100 universities in the world—and you will do so in the city with the youngest population in the Netherlands. An internship in film, television or other media is part of the program as well. In ‘Film and Contemporary Audiovisual Media’ you will work closely with our international faculty, who will initiate you into the latest theoretical debates in film and media studies. You will learn to work with state-of-the-art approaches such as phenomenology, film-cognitivism, ecocriticism, film philosophy, digital film forensics, and experimental media archaeology.

The major also prepares students for graduate study in mass communication, journalism, advertising, visual communication or digital production. SMAD’s 39-credit-hour requirement allows students to pursue minors and second majors, to strengthen their knowledge about the types of stories they want to tell.

The studio art track, photography, and media concentration, are designed to prepare students for careers in photography or media arts. It may also serve as a foundation for graduate study in fine arts.

Master Houdini, Maya, and the most advanced visual effects techniques with an international master’s degree that prepares you for Hollywood, European studios, and the video game industry.

This practical course will introduce you to a range of approaches, methods, and techniques in painting and drawing through various projects.

In the Bachelor of Arts in Audio/Radio Production and Studies program, you will gain skills in the latest audio formats and programming, including podcasts and digital radio. Create a variety of news, entertainment, public service, music, and live programming, using industry-standard technology in the Herbert School's multimedia studios.

This course will help develop basic watercolour techniques, composition and colour mixing skills, through a series of projects. In addition, the use of media such as pen, pastel and gouache will be combined with watercolour for more challenging projects.

This one-year course will provide you with all the foundation skills needed for a career in painting and decorating. You will learn about measuring and quantities, communications, building methods and construction technology, how to prepare surfaces, application of paint, decorative finishes and using spray equipment.
