While the structural changes of information society caused largely by the revolution of digital technology are rapidly going on, a phenomenon of media convergence is emerging in the various journalistic fields. The Graduate School of Journalism and Media is established to pursuit new principles of public interest as well as to build new theories of ethics of journalism and media in the midst of increasingly changing globalized community. Graduate school has two purposes to both educate students and train journalistic professionals. In order to accomplish these purposes, the two courses are placed in the graduate school where the faculty is composed of academics and resident journalists. The Graduate School contributes to improving the quality of journalism as a whole through education and training.

The Department of Informatics and Media Design focuses on design theories and techniques relating to interface planning that connects humans with media space and media design created by audio/visual technologies.

This course can be broadly split into two components. The first is to establish a core research community in fields such as visual, spatial, and cyber media (which have not been adequately covered by the arts or the humanities in the past) and newly emerging fields gaining in social importance, as well as teaching current arts and media issues from a specialist, practical perspective. The main objective is to develop students’ theoretical understanding of areas such as media literacy, which lie outside the framework of existing art theories yet have real relevance to social realities, while also providing practical training to develop their media-processing skills on the computer.

Research in this field aims at the actualization of information systems that focus primarily on the “human element” rather than on just sending and receiving information. Students can learn how to skillfully develop information systems, and how to pursue effective processes to ensure performance and safety.

You will firmly learn the technology, basic knowledge, theory, etc. necessary for design work, and acquire the ready-to-use ability that can be used in the real world.
