This division seeks to develop high-level specialized professionals that can practically research and develop environment and energy systems, aerospace systems, medical support systems, and intelligent machine systems, and who have the ability to discover and solve problems while effectively communicating and presenting. To do this, it gives students an academic grounding in mechanical engineering that covers knowledge involving system engineering, design production engineering, and mechanical energy, which form the core of specialized learning in the field of mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineers are required to possess sophisticated expertise and broad discernment to be able to offer solutions for problems such as environmental pollution, global warming, and energy-related issues. This program offers about sixty-course subjects in the master's program to enable students to acquire everything from diverse fundamental mechanical engineering skills to cutting-edge specialized expertise.

This department conducts education and research in the area where marine and fisheries engineering merges with mechanical engineering ─ a field that is based on physics but also incorporates biology and chemistry. The department seeks to endow students with a broad array of technological capabilities related to the development of machinery used in fisheries, the sustainable utilization of fisheries resources, and the conservation of marine environments, so that graduates can actively contribute to the industry in a wide variety of ways, including the development of machinery related to the marine environment, ships and food. Students who graduate from this department and take up further study in Marine Engineering in the Advanced Course can obtain certification as a ship officer, enabling them to work as a chief engineer or engineer on a ship traveling on international waters.

You can enjoy learning about knowledge and techniques such as heat, materials, flow, and vibration, which are the basic elements of mechanical engineering, through a practical curriculum that incorporates many experiments and practical training. We aim to be an engineer who has both creativity and practical ability through practical lessons and research by faculty members with abundant field experience such as next-generation mobility and biomedical engineering devices.

This course provides a practical education about mechanical engineering and robotics and nurtures personnel who acquire extensive fundamental knowledge, advanced practical skills, and the creativity and strength to confront various kinds of problems by utilizing their communication abilities.

We train mechanical engineers and researchers who can respond to the industrial society of the 21st century. Currently, in the world of machines, there is a strong demand for higher functionality, higher efficiency, and higher reliability by adding "information functions". In this department, based on the basics of mechanical engineering learned in the faculty, creative mechanical engineers and researchers who can respond to the future society will be referred to as "structural function", "production/processing", "energy function", and "system". We will train the four fields of "chemical function" as pillars of education.

In the field of mechanical engineering, there is now a need for innovative technological development which harmonizes with issues such as globalization, informatization, the aging society, and environmental problems. This course focuses on education and research/development of technology whose importance will increase in the future, and that will lead to change in the social structure. Such technology includes robotics and mechatronics, intelligent information technology, and human-related technology. We foster engineers who can value the interface among research fields, and are not confined to the single field of ordinary mechanical engineering.

The department of mechanical engineering is desired to correspond to the development of computer networks, the globalization of society, the environmental problems, and the aging society, and to make a social contribution through joint research projects with companies. The objective of this department is to nurture leading engineers and researchers who can create advanced machines and systems through education and research in the fields of information and control, production, the human environment, and materials.

Aiming to train skills required for mechanical engineers, the course provides a basic curriculum of material mechanics, mechanical dynamics, fluid dynamics and thermodynamics. The emphasis of the education is placed to understand the fundamentals and advance expertise on analysis, design, manufacture and control of mechanical devices.

This general field could be described as the foundations of engineering. The research covers the manufacturing of everything from cars and robots to equipment used in the energy, aerospace, medical care, and social welfare industries.
