The Materials Science program is an interdisciplinary M.S. program aimed at providing a rigorous education in materials science and the fundamental physics and chemistry that underlie this discipline. Educational goals are achieved through both coursework and training in cross-disciplinary research supervised by one science faculty member. The courses offer an overview of the types of materials; their chemical and physical structures; and properties.

The aim of the program is to issue MSc degree to materialsengineers having sound knowledge of structure, properties, behaviour of technical materials (such as metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, and new functional materials). Based on their knowledge these engineers are able to develop, operate, organize, and manage manufacturing, forming, and processing technologies, they can conduct and co-ordinate research and development and continue their studies at postgraduate (PhD) level.

The MSc (Master of Science) degree can be obtained through two years of study and represents a deeper, mostly theoretical knowledge of the given specialization. The MSc program offered by the Faculty also follows a structure of specializations. The entry requirement is a first degree obtained in a technical-engineering field (a BSc degree or a degree obtained in a university or college program).

Materials are the building blocks of the modern global economy and are instrumental for the transition to a green, circular economy that emits less CO2. Thirty of these materials have been defined by the EU as critical, meaning that they are both highly important to the EU economy and in dangerously low supply. Accessing the known primary raw material sources has become more challenging, while amounts of industrial waste and end-of-life products are rapidly increasing. These waste streams contain secondary raw materials, many of which are critical and can be recovered, diversifying supply and delivering usable materials to meet increasing demands.

The primary aim of our doctoral school is to train scientists who can continue their creative scientific work related to leading fields of chemical engineering and material sciences after finishing their PhD studies. The doctoral school was established on January 1, 2001 as the highest level of chemical engineering education at University of Pannonia. Since then, more than 100 students have earned the PhD degree in our doctoral school.
