3 Nursing Master's Degree Programs in Brazil

The stricto sensu graduate, Paulista Nursing School, Universidade Federal de São Paulo, began in 1978. The current Nursing Graduate Program was redesigned in 2008 and offers training in the levels of master's degree, doctoral and post-doctoral. The program has the scope to prepare masters, PhDs, and postdocs able to expand, consolidate and disseminate the science of nursing, promoting transformative practices and disseminating education and research, contributing individually and collectively to social-political, and ethical issues, improving the quality of population health and care.

The Professional Master's Degree in Nursing in Primary Health Care at the University of the State of Santa Catarina (UDESC) started in August 2017, after recommendation by CAPES in 2016. The Master's program aims to qualify nurses to exercise advanced and transformative professional practice, meet social, organizational, or professional demands and the labor market, promote the articulation between professional training with demanding entities of different natures, aiming to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of public and private organizations through problem-solving and the generation and application of innovation processes.

The Graduate Program in Nursing is the first professional master’s degree in Nursing created in a federal public institution in Rio Grande do Sul. The program emphasizes a performance of high-level professional qualification, articulating updated knowledge, expertise in scientific methodology and the fields of professional activity. It is expected that the academic and professional training of nurses will allow a transformation in the health and education services provided by them.
