The Master of Sustainable Mining is aimed to develop an intellectual with advanced abilities in applying fundamental engineering technologies or related inter-disciplinary principles to develop methods, strategies, and designs within all mining-related sectors in Africa and to develop an advanced capability to conduct fundamental research on an inter-disciplinary nature independently.

With this Master's degree, the aim is to acquire advanced, specialized and multidisciplinary training, aimed at knowing the current state of research in the field of mining teaching.

The study program “Mining of Mineral Resources” follows up to the Bachelor’s degree study in the same program. It expands knowledge in specialized mining subjects studied in Bachelor's degree study and in subjects focused on issues of operational safety. The inclusion of practical subjects will strengthen the flexibility of the field concerning the practical requirements.

Designed to meet the growing need for mining engineers, this program offers advanced study with emphasis in either management-oriented or technically-oriented disciplines for professionals in mining, mine management or underground construction. The principal objective of the 2nd Cycle in Geological Engineering is the training of professionals prepared to find solutions to concrete problems in the domain of their area of knowledge, studying them in an integrated way and resorting to specific approaches, as far as social, economic and environmental implications are concerned.

The importance of the mining sector lies in the fact that its products are part of the daily life of human beings around the world, either because they depend economically on this activity, they live ancestrally from it, they work in mines, they transport the products, they market them, They benefit from export earnings and even use them daily.

The Applied geology in the master’s study is a technically oriented geological field of study that to a necessary extent ensures all the geological research and survey activities. The study is focused mainly on the education of experts in the areas of hydrogeology, engineering geology, technical mineralogy and petrography, environmental geochemistry, deposit geology and applied geophysics.
