The objective of the Master's degree in Geological Engineering is to provide scientific, technical, and methodological training for professionals in this field such as consultancy, analysis, design, calculation, project, planning, management and administration, construction, maintenance, conservation, and operation of works, facilities and actions carried out in the field of Geological Engineering and related sectors, such as geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, natural resources, land planning, and natural risks.

The Applied geology in the master’s study is a technically oriented geological field of study that to a necessary extent ensures all the geological research and survey activities. The study is focused mainly on the education of experts in the areas of hydrogeology, engineering geology, technical mineralogy and petrography, environmental geochemistry, deposit geology and applied geophysics.

The Department of Geology and Geological Engineering offers advanced study leading to a M.S. degree in Geology and Geological Engineering*. Students must elect to pursue either a Geology Specialization or a Geological Engineering Specialization, each of which has different background and program requirements. At this time there is no direct admission into the non-thesis option.

The Geology programme is designed to prepare highly qualified universal professionals, whose intellectual and practical skills match the requirements of modern geosciences and knowledge-based technologies. The graduates will be able: to demonstrate and apply a comprehensive geological knowledge and understanding, and to effectively apply it in scientific investigations and practical activities.

The Department of Geology and Geological Engineering offers advanced study leading to an MS degree in paleontology. Resources available to graduate students in paleontology include the extensive collections of the Museum of Geology . The MS in paleontology has a strong emphasis on field-based research as well as courses in museum studies.

Unique in the country, the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics originates in three faculties geologically and geophysically organized after the Education Reform in 1948. Today the traditions of Romanian geology continue to a high level of scientific and didactic approach, on the background of modernization and permanent updating.

The Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering and Foundations at Structuralia aims to strengthen, increase, and consolidate the knowledge and skills of construction, geology, and civil engineering professionals in the field of Geotechnical Engineering through a total of 9 modules. In addition to the main general concepts, the program focuses special attention on numerical modeling applications using a solid theoretical framework and practical exercises.

The Master's Degree Course in Geological Resources and Hazards (Class LM-74) expands the basic scientific and geological training obtained through the three-year degree in the various fields of Earth Sciences and provides in-depth technical and professional training in the field of sustainable management of resources and mitigation of geological hazards.

The Master of Geosciences offers a classical two-year training in French. Additionally, we offer a one-year training in English for graduate students. This one-year course called ‘Geoengineering ’ (~270 h lecture and 5-6 month internship) will be particularly appreciated by foreign students who wish to reinforce their background in different fields of Petroleum Engineering. This year is also open for regular students who started French classes during their first year in the Master "Of Geosciences". This Master benefits from a particularly rich environment in geosciences and energy. The Master is part of the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies for Energy and Environment (STEE). The STEE Faculty has been founded within the framework of the prestigious label I-SITE which granted the project Energy Environment Solutions (E2S). It also benefits from the immediate surroundings of Carnot ISIFOR (Sustainable Engineering of Georesources) and a national pole for Geosciences and Innovation (Avenia). In addition, Pau hosts dozens of Petroleum companies, including Total, Terega, Modis, etc... Pau has therefore one of the highest concentrations of petroleum engineers and scientists in France.

The principal objective of the 2nd Cycle in Geological Engineering is the training of professionals prepared to find solutions to concrete problems in the domain of their area of knowledge, studying them in an integrated way and resorting to specific approaches, as far as social, economic and environmental implications are concerned.

The MSc Program In Geomaterials and Geological Resources is jointly organized by the universities of Aveiro and Porto, taking advantage of the conjugation of the areas in which those universities gained greater expertise in what regards mineral and energy resources.
