The Master of Fine Art program provides students a framework for advanced study in drawing and painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Students are focused on technical and conceptual development in figurative, abstract, or landscape work. The School of Fine Art provides graduate students with studio space, exhibition galleries, and world-class facilities.

The MPhil (Fine Art) is a practice-based postgraduate research programme. The aim of the programme is the generation of a contribution to knowledge and understanding in the discipline of Fine Art.

The three-year international Master in Fine Arts (iMFA) program under the guidance of the Institute of Radio, Film, and Television, equips students with practical skills like script writing, film and television production, and new media audio-visual editing. The Visual Development MFA program provides advanced coursework in still life painting, figure drawing, character design, concept painting, layout design for animation, and other core skills of professional visual developers. Our Master in Filmmaking is aimed at international students who are fluent in English and hold a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in cinema and audio-visual studies, or in another field but with a keen interest in artistic careers. It trains students to a high level of competence in all aspects of cinema-related work: directing, writing, image and post-production. It enables them to develop both their creative vision and technical expertise. At the end of this training, our graduates have the skills to design, present and deliver fictional projects, documentaries, advertisements, and musical clips.

With the progression of researches in fine arts, design, and multiple media, independent specialized programs at the Graduate School of Fine Arts (Japanese Painting; Oil Painting and Woodcut Printing; Sculpture; Design; Ceramics; and Art History, Theory, and Conservation) were combined into the single Fine Arts program in 2007. This is not only to establish a system suited to the needs of the times; when education and research are sophisticated, and interdisciplinary studies are developed, but also to enhance each conventional specialization. Also, in order to apply the university's researches to practical endeavors, the Graduate School has established projects to reinforce interdisciplinary studies, and those to serve the development of the local community and society.

The Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree offered by the Mississippi College Department of Art is an advanced graduate degree in the field of studio art, in either two-dimensional or three-dimensional areas.

The Master programme of Fine Arts in Artistic Research is a two-year full-time education programme. The purpose of the programme is to prepare visual artists to define and formulate a research project in Fine arts that aims at admission to a doctoral programme in Fine arts. The education maintains a high international profile and prepares students for professional activities at a international level. The focus is on the individual research project with which the applicant is accepted and develops during the programme. Courses include method courses with a special focus on artistic research projects, but also more general method courses with invited researchers and artistic researchers.

Beginning with the Department of Fine Arts and Crafts in 1964, the Department of Painting was established in 1972, and has been divided into East and Western painting majors. In 1984, it was established as a Western painting department with the enrolment quota of 40.
