The Master in Service Engineering adopts a T-shaped educational approach to conceive, develop, implement, and operate technology-enabled service systems, building upon the student's background (first degree) and adding cross-disciplinary competencies in-service engineering and management.

Provide students with proficient knowledge and advanced skills in Chemical Engineering to ensure that future masters (Level II Engineers) will be qualified to pursue professional activity in companies and industries directly or indirectly related to Chemical Engineering, in public or private research and development (RD) institutions, or to pursue further training in Chemical Engineering, or in related areas, at the level of a 3rd cycle (PhD).

This 2nd cycle, developed in line with the 1st and 3rd cycles in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM), aims to graduate people with the ability to plan, manage and control complex systems, in a value stream perspective, providing students with a solid background for performing qualified functions in manufacturing and service organizations. The study cycle (SC) focuses in students’ education in the IEM field,complementing with other engineering sciences and management. Furthermore, the SC also seeks to offer graduates a background in emergent areas, through the optional curricular units (CU) offered. It is also intended that students develop problem-solving competencies in real contexts, as well as scientific research competencies through the attendance to the Dissertation/Project/Internship CU. In this CU students have the opportunity to immerse in a real context of work, facing the challenges that characterise the functions of an IEM professional.

It is an area of engineering that addresses all aspects related to the conception, design, implementation, and operation of computer systems and the integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) in organizational environments.

In the area of welded construction, both in Portugal, in Europe, in the United States of America and practically around the world, strict compliance with welding standards is required, such as, EN 1090 (product certification and factory production control), ISO 3834 (quality requirements), Eurocode, ISO 14731 (welding coordination), ISO 9606 (qualification of welders), ASME BPVC (Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code), EN 12953 (boilers), both at the personnel level (operator, supervisor, engineer, etc.), as well as welding and control equipment and processes, among others.

The MSc in Civil Engineering aims to give a professional specialization by developing the technical and scientific capabilities of the holders of a 1st cycle in Civil Engineering, which is offered by both institutions. The specialization fields in this 2nd cycle (Structures and Construction) as well as the classes' hours (after-work regime) seek to be in line with the needs and expectations recorded in the region.

The Master's Degree in Occupational Safety and Hygiene Engineering has two main objectives: to train managers with the skills and abilities necessary to develop, coordinate and control activities related to the prevention and protection of occupational risks in the various sectors of economic activity; and to contribute to the development of research in a multidisciplinary, socially sensitive technical and scientific field, placing the FEUP in a prominent position internationally.

Modern industrial plants, or those undergoing modernisation, require competences in the development of machines and industrial systems with ever increasing automation. This includes, for example, sophisticated systems for the perception and interpretation of sensorial information, as well as manipulation processes and systems. Prior to this proximity to the production line, it is necessary to interact with the machines and interconnect them in communications networks, in an environment of industrial informatics. Building advanced machines is, therefore, an objective that requires solid knowledge and competences in Mechanical and Electrotechnical Engineering, among others.
