Offering students a compelling array of perspectives to investigate and assess the ever-shifting worlds of contemporary art, design, and new media art. OCAD University’s MA in Contemporary Art, Design and New Media Art Histories are unique in Canada in its focus on contemporary art, design and media production and theory. In this interdisciplinary program, you’ll engage with contemporary issues and works, while drawing on theoretical frameworks, historical contexts, and creative precedents that have shaped today’s visual and critical landscape. Program facilities are located in the heart of Toronto’s arts and culture district, in close proximity to the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Design Exchange, the Textile Museum of Canada, the Gardiner Museum, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery.

Throughout the Master International Design Strategy / China Studio students will learn to decipher the local behaviors and understand the Chinese market to offer a coherent project, adapted to users, with an anthropological approach to design. This program is a stepping stone to an international designer career.

The Interdisciplinary Master’s in Art, Media, and Design (IAMD) draws experienced artists and designers from around the world, encouraging them to investigate and produce works that combine art, design, writing, and interdisciplinary academic study to create new forms of visual and social research and creative production. Each student’s primary discipline and chosen emphasis among art, design, or media practice and theoretical inquiry will determine whether the degree earned is an MFA, MDes, or MA. Students thrive in a creative environment led by an accomplished faculty. This international Design Strategy program offers a tremendous opportunity for international design students to discover and comprehend French culture. It follows a different rhythm, adapted to the students integrating the school at a postgraduate level, to allow a good integration and a better approach of the methodology as taught in the school.

This French-language Master is deliberately professional and is halfway between a work-study program and academic training: students are integrated into start-ups. The goal of this program is to immerse students in the world of technology entrepreneurship in order to understand its workings and particularities. Students are hosted in North American incubators and work in an international context. Topics covered Cultural immersion; Technological entrepreneurship; and Creative Industries.

Located in the heart of a downtown campus, the Brazil Studio offers a bilingual program that allows an accelerated acculturation to the Portuguese language and the Brazilian context.
