The MSc Real Estate and Construction Management opens to engaging professions in real estate development, law, economics and finance, and construction management. The combination of applied and theoretical courses with group projects and industry collaboration gives graduates the skills to excel.

The increasing population and climate change worldwide pose numerous challenges, especially in the construction sector. According to a report by the European Commission, about 35 million buildings need to be renovated in Europe alone, and at least 260 million new ones will need to be built to meet the population’s needs.

Students learn the perfect combination of technical knowledge and economic and legal expertise to successfully implement plant construction projects as a project manager. It trains students to manage comprehensive projects and monitor cost management, schedules, performance guarantees and the coordination of various specialist departments and subcontractors.

The building sector is undergoing a process of change in recent years to adapt to the new market situation, looking for new objectives and new proposals. These changes affect both its technological aspects, the set of sciences and techniques that are applied in the construction of buildings, as well as the management processes that must be adopted by the construction, developer and real estate companies involved in building works. It is currently being built under new and more complex constructive proposals that are demanding advanced interdisciplinary knowledge in these matters. It is for this reason that there has been a clear demand for the intervention of specialist technicians in building works who, based on a synthetic and integrating knowledge of technological and management disciplines, can adequately respond to the new demands that this sector is currently manifesting and, in turn, can generate new advanced specific knowledge in these matters.

The Master will offer the opportunity of a stage (550 working hours) in some renowned firm: many large general contractors, engineering firms, and producers have already confirmed to us to be extremely interested in employing technicians equipped with the set of skills the Master will provide.

The Master's program aims to provide specialized knowledge for the design and seismic retrofitting of buildings, bridges, and special structures in reinforced concrete, steel, composite, and masonry, with reference to Eurocodes and the most widely adopted international standards, also within a sustainability perspective.

In the current situation, there is a demand, on the part of industries and companies, for increasingly highly qualified professionals. The Máster Universitario en Construcciones e Instalaciones Industriales trains both professionals and researchers specialized in the development of actions in the field of industrial construction, as well as in industrial activities that affect other buildings.

The Programme, shared by the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture, both from the University of Porto, benefits from the sharing experience in previous years between the two institutions and aims to provide students a theoretical and practical experience for a deeper professional practice, beyond international borders, providing a variety of topics in the areas of planning, management, and urban policy in medium and large agglomerations.
