The Low Carbon Technologies and Sustainable Chemistry is a new 2 years Master's Degree focused on natural cycles industrial chemistry, materials chemistry, industrial biotechnology aimed at assessing the environmental impact and managing and developing low environmental impact technologies.

Strongly increasing societal demand in the fields of Environment, Sustainable Development and Health, implies a synergy of advanced skills in Chemistry and Biology Sciences. In order to be able to effectively respond to this demand and to implement innovative solutions providing efficient answers to these requests, it is essential to perfectly understand the interaction of contaminants with living organisms and particularly their structures, properties, reactivities/activities in natural ecosystems.

Medicinal Chemistry – interdisciplinary area of studies and scientific research, which involves chemistry, biology, pharmacy and other sciences for creation and development of new medicines. The scope of the programme is preparation of qualified, motivated and creative specialists, who have deep knowledge of chemistry and research skills, are able to formulate and solve the issues of medicinal chemistry science and pharmaceutical industry, seeking to work at the high tech scientific and industrial companies, which produce and supply pharmaceutical preparations, or to continue their education in doctoral studies.

Our program places emphasis on students to become knowledgeable and competent in addressing and solving related problems through research and development activities in the field of chemistry. The curriculum of the Master of Chemistry is prepared based on the needs of industry, government, and education. Therefore, we offer areas of expertise in Biochemistry, Organic chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical chemistry, and Inorganic chemistry.

The Master´s programme in Chemistry deepens your knowledge of proteins' function in the body, chemicals’ effect in the environment, and of the development of new pharmaceuticals. The education has close proximity to three strong research areas at Umeå University – medicinal chemistry, environmental chemistry and protein chemistry. Your future career is as a scientist, in the industry or with public authorities.

The Master's study program in Chemistry provides students with modern, in-depth theoretical knowledge, as well as practical and research skills in the main areas of chemistry and one selected sub-discipline. Students in the program can choose a chemistry sub-discipline for their specialization: analytical, physical, or organic and biomolecular chemistry. The program is based on a student-centered approach, which focuses on the students’ learning process, and the development of their responsibility for the results of learning and research.

The Second-cycle Degree in Industrial Chemistry aims both at completing the education and training of the students who have achieved a three-year Degree in Chemistry, and at developing specific skills. Second-level graduates in Industrial Chemistry will possess a deep operational and scientific knowledge related with chemistry and with the process of industrial production, especially concerning the process-product connection and sustainability in the face of available resources and environmental issues.

The Postgraduate Chemistry Study Program was opened in 1981. This program was acknowledged by the Decree of the Director-General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in 1993. The master's and doctoral programs in the Department of Chemistry have been accredited by BAN (National Accreditation Board). Starting in 2016, the management of the master's and doctoral programs in Chemistry was separated.

This four-year course aims to give you a detailed understanding of the knowledge and skills required to advance into a successful MChem Chemistry career. You will develop a solid understanding of the main areas of chemistry before focusing on areas that are interesting or important to you through a substantial research project worth half of the course credits during your final year.

The study program “Chemistry, Technology, and Materials” consists of two specializations, “Chemistry and Chemical Technology” and “Materials Chemistry and Technology”. This program is designed as a follow-up Master's program (culminating with a Master's degree and the Czech title Ing., the equivalent of an MSc). The program builds upon prior education of graduates with bachelor degrees (Bc) from the UCT Prague “Chemistry and Technology” bachelor program or an equivalent bachelor program at a university or comparable institution abroad.
