Ecology and evolutionary biology offer a perspective on biology from the level of genes to communities of species. In the Master's programme in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, you become familiar with a wide variety of topics in three areas: ecology, evolutionary biology and conservation biology.

Recent developments in the biomolecular sciences, particularly in genome sequencing, the mapping of molecular interaction networks, the biology of systems, structural biology, molecular evolution and cell development constitute a significant challenge to the teaching of biology. Developments of this type, however, have opened up new possibilities for building an integrated understanding of the functioning and evolution of life. Molecular and Cell Biology is one of the cornerstones of biotechnology and with a solid training in this area, graduates should be well prepared to set up micro companies to operate in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. The growing use of new molecular and genetic diagnostic tools in the national health service and in the food industry means there is a call for professionals with a solid training in the biomolecular sciences. The 2nd cycle in Molecular and Cell Biology at Aveiro was designed with the intention of preparing professionals for the field with competences in modern methods for the analysis of genes and genomes, RNA, proteins and other biomolecules that are of importance in clinical diagnostics and food safety.

The Faculty of Biology at UGM aims to fulfill its vision and mission by responding to developments in Science and Technology (Scientific Vision), particularly in tropical biology, community needs (Social needs), and stakeholder requirements with specific specializations. This Master’s program is dedicated to molecular and cellular biology.
