21 Asian Studies Master's Degree Programs

This entirely English-taught program offers an interdisciplinary approach, equipping you with the tools and skills to gain a deep understanding of the historical dimensions of globalization processes. Programme will run only following the completion of the established ministerial procedure.

Japan-Global Development program (JGDP) is a newly established two-year master’s program to provide students the opportunity to learn universal development and growth logic in the fields of politics, economy and management, using Japan’s experiences in economic development and corporate growth as basic case materials. The JGDP was jointly developed by JICA and IUJ under the JICA-DSP.* *JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Development Studies Program (JICA-DSP) ”JICA-DSP” is a program that invites future leaders from partner countries to Japan to complete master’s or doctor’s degrees at Japanese graduate schools, where they learn about Japan’s experiences with its own modernization and development experience with Japanese development cooperation to other countries. JICA and universities in Japan jointly built and offer the JICA-DSP. Students will not only study in their respective academic fields, but will also learn much from modern Japan’s experience of development, which differs significantly from the history of growth and development found in the West. Students can study the “Japanese experience” systematically, including even negative ones, so that they may use this knowledge to contribute to the development of their own countries.

The MA in Asian Studies targets graduates interested in deepening their knowledge about India, China, Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia within a multidisciplinary framework of Asian realities and their historical-cultural reference frameworks. The MA in Asian Studies draws upon national and international teachers and researchers, all with their careers dedicated to study Asia, and all with academic dialogue and cooperation both at individual and institutional levels. The MA in Asian Studies’ teaching staff is able to boost the potential for the internationalization of the programs and its graduates.

This Master's Degree is aimed at graduates in Business Sciences, Law and Economics and Business Administration and other graduates in the branch of knowledge of Social and Legal Sciences, as well as all the degrees in the branch of Engineering and Humanities. This Master's program will allow students to identify, understand and analyze the elements, processes and dynamics that can be observed in the structure of the societies analyzed, especially in China, India and Japan, and their management by the different types of actors. Students will also achieve a broad knowledge of the theoretical frameworks and approaches, the conceptual elaborations in the analysis of international relations and foreign trade, the capacity to rigorously elaborate strategies for the internationalization of a company or organization, especially in China, India and Japan, and to design, plan and carry out a project on foreign trade and/or international relations, especially in Asia, with criteria of academic rigor and excellence, among other competencies.

The China and Inner Asia Department is able to supervise MPhil and PhD degrees by research and thesis in a wide range of cultural and linguistic subjects. Intending research students should not feel constrained to limit their choice of topics to those indicated against the names of current staff members (postgraduate students have recently been working on such diverse topics as colour symbolism in ancient Chinese texts, Chinese cinema, Chinese Braille systems, and translation studies).

The Master's Degree Course in Asian and African Languages and Cultures stands out for its structured teaching organization and the wide range of courses in languages and cultures of Asian and African countries. Strongly characterized in a linguistic-literary and historical-cultural sense, the Course offers the possibility of obtaining a highly specialized and competitive qualification.

The Master in Chinese Studies is offered by the University of Aveiro and the ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.

The CdLM aims to provide specific knowledge and skills, related to the specific political-cultural and socio-economic problems of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The course aims to integrate the typical skills of the social and political sciences with the areal skills, characteristic of the tradition of the University of Naples "L'Orientale".

This Englishg-taught programme allows you to achieve proficiency in the Thai language and helps you acquire an in-depth knowledge of the economic, legal, historical and political aspects of the relevant geographical area.

The CdLM aims to train graduates with in-depth cultural and methodological training in the field of archaeological research and practice in a broad context, which includes the Mediterranean, Asia and Africa, with constant reference to European and international standards. The collegial body of reference of the CdLM is the Council of the CdLM chaired by the Coordinator.

The Master’s Program in Asian Studies is carried out by Graduate Institute of Asian Studies. It is it sets up two sections, one Japanese Studies, another one Southeast Asian Studies.
