The Master of Engineering in Engineering with a concentration in Energy Systems degree from The Grainger College of Engineering provides a broad interdisciplinary education in energy systems for a variety of professional career-track students. This professional, non-thesis degree can be completed in 2-3 semesters.

The Masters of Science (M.S.) degree program in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering is designed for a broad range of students and professionals seeking to expand on their undergraduate training, enhance professional skills, and gain the experience necessary to become a professional scientist/engineer or to obtain a solid foundation for further education in science and engineering.

The Master of Engineering in Aerospace Systems Engineering, or MEng, is professionally oriented and aimed at providing students with a solid foundational knowledge of an interdisciplinary approach and relevant tools for enabling the realization of successful aerospace systems.

The M.S. in Civil Engineering degree may be completed with or without a thesis. The M.S. degree requires 32 credit hours of graduate course credit if a thesis is part of the program (with 8 of the 32 hours comprising the thesis), and 36 hours without a thesis. It is possible to complete the M.S. non-thesis degree in one year or less.

The bioengineering graduate program, centered in the department of bioengineering, is preparing future bioengineering leaders in academia, industry and government. The program is one of the most innovative graduate programs in The Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which is world-renowned for its teaching and research excellence.

The Master of Engineering in Autonomy & Robotics program's core coursework includes interdisciplinary project experiences that present key topics in the context of practical applications. Students can customize their degree by choosing from a rich set of elective courses from several relevant disciplinary domains.

The Master of Science in Agricultural and Biological Engineering equips students with the skills to solve problems in agricultural, food, utilization, environmental control and biological systems. This program offers flexibility through several areas of study, allowing students to tailor their education to their unique interests. Regardless of the chosen area of study, all students will experience interdisciplinary coursework combining mathematics; computer science; statistics; engineering mechanics; chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering; animal, crop and food sciences and other relevant domains.

The MEng in Engineering, Plasma Engineering Concentration is a professionally oriented degree program for students whose primary intent is a career in industry or government. This degree differs from the Master of Science degree in that it is a terminal degree and not a pathway to a doctoral program.

Our fully online non-thesis digital agriculture program combines the expertise of faculty in the top-ranked departments of Computer Science, Crop Sciences, and Agricultural and Biological Engineering. The program is designed for both recent graduates and working professionals with the flexibility to be full-time or part-time students. Our students are uniquely poised to lead this new field with this multidisciplinary training. In this program, students can explore the agricultural applications of topics like data science, applied statistics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, automation, robotics, and more.

Biomedical image computing is a large, rapidly growing industry and research field comprising the formation and analysis of diagnostic images. Both image system design and biomedical image analysis currently are being revolutionized at a tremendous rate by the emergence of machine learning techniques. This Master of Science in Biomedical Image Computing degree addresses the need for efficient, rigorous training focused at the intersection of biomedical imaging science, high-performance computing, and machine learning.

The M.S. in financial engineering is a 3-semester STEM-designated professional master's program. As a joint venture by the Department of Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering in The Grainger College of Engineering and the Department of Finance in the Gies College of Business, MSFE students have access to the top engineering and business minds in the country.

The M.S. in industrial engineering offers advanced studies in operations research; optimization; supply chain and revenue management; financial engineering; quality and reliability engineering; and product design and development. This program is offered online or on-campus with thesis and non-thesis options available, giving students the flexibility they need to succeed. 

The ECE M.Eng. is a professional master’s degree for students and professionals interested in expanding their technical knowledge in electrical and computer engineering. The program prepares graduates for higher-paying, specialized roles and enables students to stay up-to-date on the latest tools and techniques in the field.

The MSW Campus Program is open to Advanced Standing students as well as students with undergraduate degrees in other fields. Our Advanced Standing Campus Program allows you to enroll directly in advanced and concentrated coursework if you meet certain criteria, including receiving a bachelor’s degree in social work within the past 7 years. The Advanced Standing Program is offered in the MSW Campus and Outreach Programs.
