Our MA Urban Design programme is jointly delivered by the Welsh School of Architecture and the School of Geography and Planning. The goal of this programme is to enable practitioners and scholars to transform the field of urban design through critical thinking and creative practice. Urban design is transdisciplinary, straddling professional fields such as architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and public policy, and also disciplines such as politics, economics, sociology and cultural studies.

The Master’s Programme in Architecture and Urban Design is operating in-between the artistic and the scientific field of knowledge. The programme is characterised by a consistent focus on sustainability and has an exploratory and experimental profile with teachers from all over the world.

Students of architecture and urban planning meet with important creative personalities in the field during personal consultations thus lending them valuable experience and diverse perspectives on contemporary architecture and possible urban solutions. Studio assignments are focused on local projects in the Czech Republic (e.g., Prague, Liberec) and international ones in places such as the Netherlands, the United States, and Iceland.

The programme aims to: enhance existing construction-related professionals with the knowledge of urban design and regional planning; produce experts with comprehensive knowledge of urban design and regional planning; provide multi-disciplinary approach for architecture, civil engineering, urban design, urban planning, building services and construction professionals; etc.

The Master of Urban Studies is a two-year, English-language program focused on rethinking contemporary urbanism. The program combines history, theory and practice, drawing on critical approaches in planning, geography and architecture. It is aimed at students who want to contribute towards a more equitable future. Key themes include infrastructure, urban nature and housing.

The joint MA by SOAS and Shiv Nadar University focuses on global sociology, emphasizing urban life-worlds. Combining academic and policy insights, it uses global case studies to explore theoretical frameworks. Students benefit from cultural immersion in the UK and India, with core courses and a dissertation.

The mission of the program is to provide the community with qualified architects who can deal with the complex issues of the urban environment and cities. The program in Urban Design will: Enable graduates to evaluate and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of real-world design proposals for buildings and urban environments.

In practice, there is a common tension between those developing and interpreting planning policy on the one hand, and the designers of cities on the other. This programme brings these groups together to engage in project-based learning. You will develop planning research, urban analysis and design skills before deciding whether to complete an urban design thesis or dissertation. Both of these options can be completed as work-based studies with opportunities for summer placements.

A taught postgraduate course that conducts research into how global cultural and economic forces influence contemporary cities. The design, functioning and future of urban situations is explored in written, drawn and modelled work that builds on the legacy of twentieth century urban theory and is directed towards the development of sustainable cities.

Healthy Cities and Sustainable Cities are two sides of the same coin: both place citizens’ well-being and sustainability at the heart of urban transformation. There is currently a lack of programs that address this need for urban planners and designers who are trained to achieve some of the sustainable development goals in a comprehensive manner through urban design.

The Master's Degree in Research and Innovation in Architecture Intervention in Heritage, Rehabilitation and Regeneration is a master's degree which arises from the extensive experience of the three departments of the School of Architecture of Valladolid (Architectural Constructions; Theory of Architecture and Architectural Projects; Urban Planning and Representation of Architecture). The Master has a common base of Innovation in Architecture and three specific lines of specialization that will appear in the corresponding degree: Sustainable intervention in the Architectural, Urban and Territorial Heritage; Architectural and Urban Regeneration and Rehabilitation; Research in Architecture and Urbanism. It is aimed at recent graduates and those professionals with years of experience who wish to reorient their activity towards fields of interest in the contemporary working environment, updating their training and complementing it with a master's degree that will allow them to broaden their professional horizons.
