The master's degree program provides students with in-depth knowledge and consolidates their associated communication, methodological, and linguistic skills. It enables students to obtain a special qualification in certain areas of Law. Students are awarded the title Master of Law (M Law). The master's degree program consists purely of elective courses. Each student compiles an individual plan of studies from an extensive range of subjects. Students have the opportunity to obtain a special qualification in academic fields such as Criminal Law and Criminology, Public Law, Private Law, Economic Law, or International and European Law. Stays abroad are only recommended at master's level. As well as completing their electives, students also offer a piece of academic work – the master's thesis. The master's degree paves the way for students to begin the bar examination process.

The interdisciplinary and application-oriented Master of Science program "Biomedical Engineering" is assigned to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bern. The program is offered by the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research in cooperation with the Bern University of Applied Sciences. This focused and state-of-the-art educational program promotes scientific discovery and novel developments in the field of medical technology. Engineering graduates from both universities and universities of applied sciences join this international program in English. The Master's program in Ecology and Evolution leads to the degree of a Master of Science (M Sc) in Ecology and Evolution. The program is run jointly by the Institute of Ecology and Evolution and the Institute of Plant Sciences of the Science Faculty. The Master's program in Ecology and Evolution is regulated in the Master's curriculum (Studienplan) in Ecology and Evolution (MSc EE) and is fully taught in English. The Master's program has a workload of 90 ECTS points. 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of work. The program can be completed by full-time students in 3 semesters. It consists of 60 ECTS in form of a Master's thesis and 30 ECTS in formal learning units.

The Universities of Bern and Fribourg have the highest degree of expertise and the most diverse knowledge in all of Switzerland when it comes to Eastern Europe. With the Swiss Library of Eastern Europe – the largest specialized academic library in Switzerland for East European history and contemporary East European studies – the two universities also have at their disposal one of Europe's biggest research libraries for East European studies. All of this expertise is linked together to create a unique knowledge base in the Master program in East European Studies.

The Master program in Biomedical Sciences has a duration of one-and-a-half years. The mandatory core component supplements the initial knowledge of the pathophysiology of organ systems that is acquired in the third year of the Bachelor program in Fribourg. This core component also expands students' expertise in modern methods of research. Students also conduct a three-week laboratory internship that focuses on a research field of their choice. During the final six months of their studies, students write a master thesis on a research topic of their choice.

Art history education with a focus on the history of textile arts. The Werner and Margaret Abegg Endowed Chair for the History of Textile Arts has established a new and internationally unique field of research and instruction within the Institute of Art History at the University of Bern. This field addresses textile arts (primarily silk weaving, embroidery, tapestry and costume), as well as individual works and ensembles from that spectrum, whereby the focus here is on the uniqueness of their materials and technical craftsmanship, their functions and effects, and their significance within a larger artistic, historical, political, situational and performative context.

The Master’s program builds on previous knowledge relating to business and economics obtained in a Bachelor’s degree program. The “Master of Science in Business and Economics” covers the interrelated subjects of Business Administration and Economics. Students learn how to apply formal economic modeling and empirical analysis to obtain insights into the functioning of companies and markets, covering a comprehensive range of topics including accounting, finance, innovation, marketing, personnel management, pricing, and organization. The program is offered jointly by the departments of Business Administration and Economics. It is a mono program (90 ECTS) and can be completed in a standard study period of three semesters. As a result, it is not possible to take on a minor subject. Students may choose a particular focus area or opt for a broader selection of courses, the only requirement being that a minimum of 30 ECTS are obtained in each of the two departments. Business Administration courses offer students an in-depth understanding of the functioning of modern enterprises. Students can choose from a rich array of topics such as accounting and controlling, corporate strategy, financing and capital structure, marketing, and organization, to name just a few. All the courses place an emphasis on empirical methods and/or analytic reasoning based on economic theory.

The MA degree program in Archaeology allows students to pursue a special qualification in Archaeology studied as part of their BA degree in combination with a minor (subsidiary) offered by the University of Bern. In-depth seminars, practical exercises, field trips and excavations provide in-depth knowledge of all key periods, cultures, problems, methods and technical knowledge. The MA degree program in Archaeology aims to provide advanced academic tuition. All four Archaeology courses offered at the University of Bern can also be studied as subsidiaries (minors) with other majors.

At master's level, Education can be studied as a mono master's, a major or a minor. The single-subject (mono) master's consists of 120 ECTS credits and usually takes four semesters to complete. The master's degree program is an in-depth study program focusing on independent working on problems, the writing of a thesis and implementation of research methods. One of the following focus areas can be selected as part of the master's program: General and Historical Education, Pedagogical Psychology, Sociology of Education or School and Classroom Research.

This Master program at the University of Bern expands the knowledge students have attained at the Bachelor level and addresses selected topics in various areas. The Master program is more specialized than the Bachelor program, while also offering a relatively broad-based education. The program challenges students intellectually and presents them with situations they might confront in practice: Students work together in groups, conduct their own independent studies, implement their ideas and are given the opportunity to work in an international environment. The program's combination of theory and practice prepares them perfectly for the working world.

The Master’s program conveys in-depth knowledge of Business Administration and encourages academic engagement with business-related issues. The program builds on previous knowledge obtained in a Bachelor’s program. The “Master of Science in Business Administration, Universität Bern” is a mono program and can be completed in a standard study period of three semesters. As a result, it is not possible to take on a minor subject.

As well as providing students with sound technical knowledge, the master's in Dental Medicine at the University of Bern aims to support their social skills. Professionals in dentistry need to be able to work independently, communicate clearly and work well within a team. The Dental Medicine study program lasts for a total of five years (three years as a bachelor's degree program and two years as a master's degree program). Students complete the first two years with students of Medicine. The next three years then focus heavily on practical dentistry at the University's School of Dental Medicine. After successfully completing the master's degree program and Swiss Federal master's examination, all graduates achieve a level of training and education that enables them to undertake any treatment in primary dental care independently and to recognize situations that require referral to specialists.

The single-subject (mono-master) program in "Art History: Exhibitions and Museums" is unique in Switzerland and offers students the possibility of combining a classic Master program of study in art history (major, 90 ECTS credits) with the "Application Area for Exhibitions and Museums" as a minor (30 ECTS credits). Along with all the extensive qualifications needed for becoming an art historian, the program also teaches students the basic skills needed for a career in art museums and exhibitions. The Master program focuses on the study of practice-oriented topics. The program is divided into the Master program (generally in the 7th and 8th semesters) and the final phase (generally in the 9th and 10th semesters).

The Master program in History teaches students how to conduct research and write academic papers and in this manner enables students to pursue careers in a variety of professions. The Master program in History at the Institute of History at the University of Bern is designed to expand students' knowledge of methodology and empirical research and results, whereby the major and mono courses of study focus on the ability to independently produce scholarly work. Students can either focus on one (minor) or two subjects (major and mono) that they choose themselves. The institute's goal is to expand students' knowledge of the historical dimension of human existence in the context of the interdependence between politics, society, the economy, the environment and culture. Further aims are to get students to critically question handed-down concepts and memories, to highlight long-neglected interconnections and to counteract opinions that are commonly held to be true. These aspects, as well as an individual focus on specific topics and methods of historical research, will enable students to complete tasks that generally cannot be conceptualized or conducted in such form in other disciplines both within and outside the humanities and social sciences.
