The Master of Sustainable Mining is aimed to develop an intellectual with advanced abilities in applying fundamental engineering technologies or related inter-disciplinary principles to develop methods, strategies, and designs within all mining-related sectors in Africa and to develop an advanced capability to conduct fundamental research on an inter-disciplinary nature independently.

The LLM in International Commercial Law at the University of Johannesburg (the flagship program of the Faculty of Law) is designed to be completed by full-time students within one year and by part-time students over two years. The program consists of the modules International Commercial Law A, B, and C, as well as a minor dissertation on a topic in International Commercial Law.

The LLM in Labour Law (one year full-time or two years of part-time studies) provides students with an opportunity to develop their intellectual and theoretical competencies at an advanced level and to strengthen their ability to understand labour law from a viewpoint of critical analysis of the underlying principles.

The University of Johannesburg’s LLM in Banking Law program is designed to provide students with specialist knowledge in aspects of the law that are highly relevant to the banking sector. It is designed to be completed by full-time students within one year and by part-time students over two years.

The MA (Clinical Psychology) program leads to registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the Professional Board of Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). This full-time program encompasses the broad spectrum of Clinical Psychology. The program consists of a research component (completion of a minor dissertation) as well as attending workshops, contact sessions, and practical work.

The Master’s in Commercial Law is a flexible qualification allowing a wide choice of modules that can be combined according to the interests and focus of each student. It can be completed in one year for full-time students and over two years for part-time students.

The purpose of this qualification is to let a student demonstrate through research training an ability to master at an advanced level the current state of specialized knowledge on a given topic within a particular branch of the law and to provide sound training in research methodologies.

The Department of Metallurgy maintains strong links with the metal industry within South Africa, providing undergraduates with exposure to a wide range of metal-related operations. The exposure equips graduates with sound knowledge of metal production, design, and manufacture.

The purpose of the Master of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences is to enable successful learners to make a contribution to a chosen field of radiography through independent research, using advanced problem-solving skills and critical, reflective thinking. The learner will report the findings in a manner that meets the accepted criteria and ethical principles of the profession.

The purpose of the qualification is to develop a postgraduate student by offering the student the opportunity to show evidence of independent and exploratory research within the field of Operations Management.

The purpose of the program is to develop an intellectual with advanced abilities in applying construction engineering management with other related inter-disciplinary principles, in order to address construction management related problems within the sector. One of the main objectives of this process is to develop an advanced capability to conduct inter-disciplinary construction engineering management research of an original nature. It also aims to promote a lifelong learning approach, as well as an aptitude for training other students in similar fields.

The purpose of the Master of Sustainable Urban Planning & Development is to develop built environment professionals specializing in the sustainable planning, design, development, and management of urban centers. These graduates will acquire advanced abilities in applying sustainable development principles to urban development to benefit societies at large. One of the main objectives is to develop an advanced capability to independently conduct fundamental urban issues-related research and as such promote a lifelong learning approach.

The purpose of the Master of Engineering in Physical Metallurgy is to develop a graduate with advanced abilities in appropriate analytical and research skills relevant to engineering design and synthesis, in order to solve engineering problems of society at large. One of the main objectives of this program is to develop an advanced capability to conduct research independently and as such promote a lifelong learning approach.

The purpose of the Master of Public Management and Governance is to equip students with specialized knowledge and insights to develop in-depth knowledge in a complex area of study through independent research, to demonstrate specialized leadership, self-reflexivity, and adaptability, to develop analytical and management competencies at the master’s level to perform advanced and professional tasks in the public sector, to gain abstract knowledge into either policy evaluation as a higher-order management function or sustainability management, to synthesize information autonomously in these specialized fields in order to become leaders who can handle contradictions and evaluate highly complex problems independently, to write high-level texts and to apply research methods and techniques to solve problems which need scientific solutions.
