The international Master of Science in Plant Sciences prepares students to become leading professionals in the present and future agriculture and adapt their new knowledge to local conditions in their home countries. Students will acquire advanced knowledge and skills in the scientific basis and principles of crop plant production, the environmental impact of agricultural activity, analysis of specific cropping systems, seeking solutions to practical problems, either in the scientific literature or by an experimental approach, and adapting appropriate solutions to various situations.

The consecutive master's program "Integrated Plant and Animal Breeding" uses an interdisciplinary and research-oriented approach to convey the basic theories, methods, processes and issues of breeding in agricultural and forestry sciences. The primary goal of the course is to enable graduates to carry out in-depth scientific work. Students are qualified for international specialist and management tasks and specifically prepared for corresponding research activities related to foreign countries.

The Plant Science Master's degree aims at training professionals with a solid and integrated cultural background in basic biology, appropriate for applications in different areas of biology, focusing mainly on plant science. The students will acquire a high level of scientific preparation and in-depth knowledge and skills, taking into consideration molecular and cellular aspects, without neglecting applicative goals such as plant breeding and the protection and preservation of natural plant species.

Graduates of the Agroecology and Plant Health teaching program acquire the knowledge required for dealing with agricultural and environmental issues using a multi-disciplinary approach based on ecological principles. Both research and teaching center on studying the interactions between the biotic and abiotic factors in agricultural systems, and on environmental aspects of modern agriculture.

The Máster Universitario Erasmus Mundus en Mejora Genética Vegetal (emPLANT) is offered by a consortium of leading European universities in the field of plant breeding, plant biology and seed technology.

The progress of all master's candidates is monitored biannually by the supervisor and the postgraduate coordinator. A candidate's study may be terminated if the progress is unsatisfactory or if the candidate is unable to finish his/her studies during the prescribed period.

Further study in the major subject/s, augmented by ancillary modules prescribed by the Postgraduate Studies Committee, on the recommendation of the head of department. Such ancillary modules may be taken simultaneously with the major subject/s. Candidates in possession of the BScAgricHons degree may be exempted from additional ancillary modules.
