The Department of Physics at the University of Crete organizes an annual postgraduate program lasting one year, which leads to the acquisition of a Postgraduate Diploma of Specialization in “Advanced Physics”. Graduates of the program can apply and, if accepted, continue their studies for another 3 years in order to obtain a Doctoral Diploma in one of the offered specializations.

The International MSc Programme in Physics, delivered entirely in English, is designed to provide students with a thorough and flexible training in the field of physical sciences and its technological applications, in an exciting and international research environment. It is also aimed to provide a solid cultural background in the various fields of modern physics, covering both theoretical and experimental aspects. Students may specialize in a particular sub-field, such as Nuclear and particle astrophysics, Atomic and molecular physics, Physics of complex systems, Environmental physics, and Aerospace physics, thus taking the right road to become leader in their field of interest.

Complement the Bachelor in Engineering Physics, Physics or other applied Physics/Engineering Physics formation, with advanced contents in Condensed Matter Physics and Nano-sciences; Photonics and Optoelectronics; and with a reasonable number of elective courses that allow students to choose part of their formation track. These elective courses may be chosen in the principal subject of the Program or in complementary areas like Mathematics, Mechanical and Electrotechnical Engineering, Chemistry, Management.

In the MSc in Physics, we offer comprehensive knowledge. Those skills and subject groups such as Modern Physics, Optics, Laser Physics, Physics of Quantum Systems, and Atomic and Molecular Physics encompass the science of the main areas of Physics based on the bachelor’s level of Physics. Practical courses and seminars provide students with hands-on skills. The seminars and practical courses outnumber the number of lectures in the curriculum.
