MA Painting at the Royal College of Art is a world-leading, studio-based MA programme with a successful record of turning out artists working at the forefront of the discipline and of international standing. Through our innovative approaches to teaching and learning, we foster a student to consider painting as a creative, self-reflexive, and critical activity that draws on a wealth of diverse historical, material and conceptual disciplinary resources as it thrives in the 21st century.

The Master in Fine Arts is the natural continuation of the Bachelor of Arts in Painting and Visual Arts and Sculpture and Installations. Nevertheless, it may also be attended by students who come from other educational backgrounds and who wish to complete their studies by studying contemporary art.

The practicing and development of drawing skills as the base of the visual and imagery creation and through this the stimulation of a personal artistic way of observing, thinking and representing the world. The course in OTM in Painting makes known the basic rudiments and techniques of painting in the first years and then gradually grows towards becoming an artist.

The Painting programme invites you to explore painting as both a practice and a conceptual space for artistic research. From a ‘painterly perspective’ within a studio-based programme, you will investigate materials, methods, and concepts in cultural and historical contexts, while engaging in critical dialogues with diverse approaches to painting. Whether you draw on traditional methods or experimental and expanded practices, this programme encourages you to push boundaries and create meaningful, relevant, and resonant work.

The Master in Sacred Art aims at offering theoretical and practical training in the field of sacred and religious art. This sector, deeply rooted in Italian culture and tradition constitutes a significant percentage of the Italian artistic heritage. The three specializations to choose from for the Master are Painting, Sculpture, and Goldsmithing.

This program is comprised of oil painting and Japanese painting. For oil painting, students strive to enhance their experience in advanced artistic expression, focusing on canvas painting, printmaking, photo, installation, and performance art. The core of Laguna College of Art + Design’s MFA program in Painting is built on the values of time-honored skills informed by contemporary theory and designed to help you realize the ideas possible through representational modes of painting and drawing. Our curriculum recognizes that there are particularly technical, ideational, and formal issues related to representation that require you to undergo specialized study at the graduate level, and we strive to meet these demands with a faculty and a curriculum tailored to your needs.
