The joint master's programme in Nuclear Energy educates tomorrow’s nuclear engineers on how to address the key technical, social and environmental challenges faced by the industry. Going beyond the scope of traditional nuclear education, the programme helps tomorrow’s engineers understand nuclear power in the context of a diverse energy mix. The programme is offered by four European universities through EIT InnoEnergy.

The Master's Programme in Nuclear Engineering is a key component in the transition towards clean and feasible energy systems. Nuclear power has an excellent track record in providing abundant and dispatchable clean electricity for the electrification of society. Nuclear heating and nuclear propulsion are emerging as new applications. In all applications, nuclear power must be safe. At LUT, nuclear engineering research and education focus on three aspects: nuclear power plant engineering, nuclear safety, and reactors for new applications – including next-generation technologies.

The aim of the MSc program in Nuclear Engineering is to prepare engineers with the necessary skills to design, build and operate power generation plants, radioactive waste treatment plants, systems using radiation for industrial and medical applications, etc.

The master’s programme in Nuclear Energy Engineering covers all aspects of nuclear engineering, including the physics and technology of nuclear reactors, nuclear power safety and radiation protection. Students choose from numerous unique elective courses covering, for example, generation IV reactors and small modular reactors. Graduates design, operate, manage and develop nuclear facilities, usually as nuclear engineers, consultants, researchers and managers.

M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering is highly research-oriented and is conducted in the unit's facilities and laboratories under the supervision of UNE faculty members. A wide variety of research subjects are covered at the UNE, including nuclear reactor physics, neutron transport, nuclear fuel cycle, nonproliferation strategies, applications of radiation in medicine, nuclear instruments for radiotherapy, Monte Carlo simulations of charged particles, radiation shielding, and the development of radiation detectors.

Graduates from Nuclear Power Engineering possess a vast knowledge of general mathematics, thermodynamics, mechanics of solids, mechanics of fluids, environment protection, thermal engineering, turbomachinery, conventional and renewable power technologies, and socioeconomics.

The MSc in Nuclear Engineering, track in Advanced Nuclear Waste Management (ANWM) is designed to provide skilled and specialized human resources to the European and international states developing nuclear technology and focusing on Dismantlement and Decommissioning of Nuclear installations and Waste management. The combination of scientific and technical skills with management knowledge and strong safety culture (human factor and organizational safety) is meant to put the human being and environment safety as the priority number one.

The Master of Nuclear Engineering is a one-year programme organised by 6 Belgian universities in collaboration with SCK CEN. It is a modular programme that facilitates individual participation in selected courses or foreign students' participation in blocs of courses.

The MSc NEPIA is designed to provide skilled and specialized human resources to the European and international states developing nuclear technology. The combination of scientific and technical skills with management knowledge and strong safety culture (human factor and organizational safety) is meant to put the human being and environment safety as the priority number one.
