The Master of Biomedical Sciences (MCB) is a research-oriented postgraduate program and has the level of consolidation in the National Register of Quality Postgraduate Programs (PNPC) of CONACYT. Biomedical sciences are a field of multi and interdisciplinary knowledge whose purpose is to study and investigate pathophysiological processes, from molecular interactions to the dynamic functioning of the organism, through methodologies used in biology, chemistry, and physics, for the development of useful strategies in prevention. , diagnosis, reduction of adverse effects of drugs, and increase in the efficacy of disease treatments. In the country, higher education institutions, research centers, hospitals, government areas, and companies, both in the public and private sectors, demand the incorporation of highly qualified personnel, with leadership to conduct research groups, generate and apply knowledge.

A program that incorporates emerging trends in applied sciences, emphasizing the design of biomedical research, technical writing, administrative aspects of laboratories and personnel supervision, bioinformatics, and quantitative, qualitative, and mixed analysis. It is a two-year program, which contains a multidisciplinary curriculum that will prepare professionals to work in areas of science and health care in various corporations or professional organizations.

The Master's Degree Program of Postgraduate Studies of the Center for Biological Research of the Northwest, SC, CIBNOR, is established with the purpose of contributing to the national effort in the training of human resources for scientific research and technological development in their areas of specialty. . In particular, the training of qualified personnel to carry out scientific research tasks is pursued with an approach that includes knowledge of problems that primarily affect the development of the northwestern region of the country, active participation in their resolution and the maintenance of a close link with the social, government and private sectors.

The mission of the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences is to provide a rigorous and stimulating research and training environment for UCC students. Our students provide the intellectual resources needed to advance the research and educational goals of the institution and to provide a new generation of scientists. The faculty is committed to excellence in interdisciplinary research training for qualified candidates who will continue to advance the fundamental knowledge needed to conquer disease and promote health and improved quality of life for all people. The knowledge and skills acquired will enable the graduate to be successful in biomedical research conducted at universities, government, and private industry laboratories, as well as in education. The program also prepares the graduate for advanced training and research. In the pursuit of this goal, there are departmental research laboratories furnished with high-quality equipment, supported by service and administrative areas in each department. A common instrumentation laboratory, a tissue culture laboratory, an electromechanical shop, an immunoretrovirology laboratory core facility, and a radioisotope laboratory supplement the above space. Each department is equipped with computer facilities.

The Faculty of Health Sciences of the Universidad del Istmo and the Institute for Research and Education of Human Genetic and Metabolic Diseases –INVEGEM– have signed a Specific Agreement for Scientific-Technological Collaboration in which they recognize the importance of Education as a strategy that allows strengthening the professional performance skills of those who develop in the different disciplines of the health sciences. The purpose of this Master's is that the participants, upon completion, are able to understand the genetic component of diseases in humans and apply molecular techniques for diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring, and selection of therapy. It is intended that this program have a positive impact at the national and regional level, by promoting the updating of knowledge in human genetics of professionals related to health. It should be noted that currently, education and training in this area at the master's or doctoral level in Guatemala and in the Central American region is scarce, which is why there is a lack of an adequate number of professionals specialized in the area of ​​human genetics.

The Master of Science Degree in Biology offers two specializations: Molecular Biotechnology and Environmental and Ecological Sciences. The emphasis of these programs is to present an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on scientific reasoning to prepare students for work in the field of Biology dealing with the molecular aspects of biotechnology, ecology or the environmental sciences.

Focus on Biochemistry and cell biology, immunology, scientific methodology, biostatistics, medical. bacteriology, parasitology, mycology, virology, diagnostic bacteriology.

Its objective is to train professionals capable of applying and generating knowledge to solve problems in chemical engineering and related fields. Aimed at professionals in chemical engineering and related disciplines who wish to acquire advanced training in the sciences of chemical engineering and basic training in research.

The Master in Geographic Information Systems seeks to deepen and broaden the studies of Remote Sensing and GIS techniques as tools for the diagnosis and evaluation of the territory and natural resources. On the other hand, it seeks that the participants develop the skills and abilities to interpret and analyze the basic processes involved in the collection and interpretation of territorial data from different sources of remote sensors and GIS. This master's degree will strengthen and expand the team of researchers and technicians of the highest academic level in the country in the area of ​​Geographic Information Systems.

General objectives Expand and consolidate the knowledge about Marine Ecology and enable the student to develop multidisciplinary research work, applying scientific and technical knowledge in an innovative way, which can serve as a platform for doctoral studies.

To train personnel capable of teaching theoretical-practical courses at the bachelor's level in the field of Genetics and Molecular Biology, as well as participating effectively in carrying out scientific research work. Prepare students who are interested in continuing towards a career in scientific or technological research within a doctoral program in Genetics and Molecular Biology or in a field related to it.
