The Master in Mining and Geological Engineering provides solid training in mining and exploration techniques in the current framework of the digital transformation of the mining industry, based on the best practices of environmental sustainability, safety, smart mining, automation, and robotics. The role of a Mining and Geological Engineer involves exploration, development, and mining management, but also support for construction works, namely tunnels and other excavations in rock masses.

The Master of Sustainable Mining is aimed to develop an intellectual with advanced abilities in applying fundamental engineering technologies or related inter-disciplinary principles to develop methods, strategies, and designs within all mining-related sectors in Africa and to develop an advanced capability to conduct fundamental research on an inter-disciplinary nature independently.

With this Master's degree, the aim is to acquire advanced, specialized and multidisciplinary training, aimed at knowing the current state of research in the field of mining teaching.

Today‘s Europe needs a skilled workforce for the raw materials industry, which forms the basis for the development of innovative technologies and industries of the future. The large imbalance between raw material acquisition and consumption that exists in Europe requires a greater commitment to securing supply chains. Such a strategy demands the acquisition of a skilled, entrepreneurial workforce with an awareness of sustainable activities between technology, economics, society, and the environment. The RaVeN EIT-Labelled master’s program in Mining Engineering responds to this challenge by offering an innovative education program that offers a comprehensive approach to resources with an emphasis on a holistic value chain and on closing the gap between the supply of, and demand for, raw materials. The objective will be pursued along an active learning path involving students and looking for unconventional solutions that can get us closer to a more self-contained (natural resource re-circulating) and, therefore, more sustainable economy. The three cooperating university partners, representing a broad geographical and cultural spectrum, and collaborating with the two sides of the Knowledge Triangle, contribute a combination of expertise and highly entrepreneurial mindsets to the program.

We offer high-level, rigorous and innovative training that allows graduates to assume positions of responsibility in the management and direction of the company, preferably in mining and energy industries and farms.

The study program “Mining of Mineral Resources” follows up to the Bachelor’s degree study in the same program. It expands knowledge in specialized mining subjects studied in Bachelor's degree study and in subjects focused on issues of operational safety. The inclusion of practical subjects will strengthen the flexibility of the field concerning the practical requirements.

Graduate's profile: A graduate will possess the abilities to use in-depth knowledge of problems within the domain of basic sciences, main-field-of-study, and specialization subjects. The graduate will be able to manage and supervise teams, deal with high-risk situations and decisions, and use competently the knowledge of law and economics. The graduate will be prepared to design technological processes, carry out research work and work creatively.

The principal objective of the 2nd Cycle in Geological Engineering is the training of professionals prepared to find solutions to concrete problems in the domain of their area of knowledge, studying them in an integrated way and resorting to specific approaches, as far as social, economic and environmental implications are concerned.

Responsible mining is possible by developing it under safe conditions and respecting environmental standards and international parameters. The importance of the mining sector lies in the fact that its products are part of the daily life of human beings around the world, either because they depend economically on this activity, they live ancestrally from it, they work in mines, they transport the products, they market them, They benefit from export earnings and even use them daily.

The raw materials sector is entering a new era that requires companies to transform their operations, create new business models, and foster a digital culture. In this context, the minerals industry is facing a changing talent landscape, necessitating of new skill sets in their workforce. Companies need to ensure that their staff is properly constituted to support this transformation process. In the raw materials sector, technology is not an end in itself. The greatest impact will come from embedding different new technologies as an integrated whole and all across the mining value chain. Each opportunity is significant in itself, but achieving the full potential of all opportunities is possible only if they are pursued in an integrated way. The key to doing this is to have cross-functional teams that understand both mining operations and the technologies and are able to integrate new technologies into operations. Companies must be able to get the right people with the necessary skill set to maximize value creation. Miners must prepare their workforce today to meet the demands of tomorrow’s digital age or risk future growth and innovation. Over time, mining work will evolve toward knowledge-based jobs that solve the same challenges as today but do so through different means, and at the same time, face new challenges. The mining companies that recognize this shift today and best navigate the changes ahead will be the winners of tomorrow.

Training of professionally competent and qualified staff to understand, conceive, design and implement optimized technical solutions in the areas of Exploration, Exploitation, and Treatment of Mineral Raw Materials, as well as in the area of the Geoenvironment, with a view to environmental preservation, recovery, and sustainability, understood as fundamental pillars of social cohesion and well-being.

Geomatics for Mineral Resource Management focuses on the process of resource modeling and mine management. Students will be taught a variety of subjects related to the field of mining and mineral resources. This includes financial, environmental, political as well as legal aspects of national and international mining projects. In addition to the standard courses taught by staff from partner universities and industry experts, massive open online courses are offered for the students.

The Applied geology in the master’s study is a technically oriented geological field of study that to a necessary extent ensures all the geological research and survey activities. The study is focused mainly on the education of experts in the areas of hydrogeology, engineering geology, technical mineralogy and petrography, environmental geochemistry, deposit geology and applied geophysics.

This is a joint MSc programme of Wrocław University of Science and Technology and University of Miskolc (Hungary) formatted as structured student mobility. Wrocław University of Science and Technology students study two semesters in Wrocław (the first and the third semesters) while the second semester is offered by the University of Miskolc. Students apply for an Erasmus Plus grant for the mobility period. In the third semester, the students write and defend their Master's thesis at Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
