The MSc in Migration, Mobility and Development programme offers you the opportunity to combine study and analysis of critical perspectives on development and the related field of migration studies. Our core course reflects the department’s diverse disciplinary and epistemological concerns, and approaches to the study of migration and development through political economy, decolonial, postcolonial, and institutionalist perspectives, drawing from debates in Sociology, Geography, Politics and Anthropology.

The Master of Arts in Migration Studies is a two-year, 31-unit program that begins each fall. Why do people migrate? How do migrants integrate into receiving countries, or sometimes fail to do so? This master's degree (MSc) focuses on sociological theories and research about migration. During the education, you will gain knowledge that enables you to understand issues related to migration and diversity from a broad perspective. The courses are offered by leading scholars from three universities and five academic disciplines: Sociology, Public Administration, History, Urban Studies and Development Studies.

This MA has quickly become one of the largest programs on forced migration anywhere in the world. The Master's Degree in International Migration is offered by the University Institute for Migration Studies (taught at the IUEM) and has been an official degree from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas since the 2008-2009 academic year. During this time, the IUEM has prepared highly qualified professionals to develop their professional career in the field of international migration.

The two-year MA program in Mobility Studies at the University of Padua is driven by the assumption that the Humanities can play a crucial role in facing and understanding mobility in present society. This is something different than offering a focus uniquely on the circulation of people, objects, and ideas in given historical and geographical frameworks. The MA program in Mobility Studies offers a broader approach. It aims at providing students with a selection of specific tools in historical, geographical, anthropological and philological studies, in order to challenge the traditional understanding of human actions, in time and space. “Challenging forces” such as colonization, migration, exile, tourism are seen as factors that shape cultural identities and not only as phenomena of contamination of given cultures. Students will be immersed in an engaging process through which people, texts, images, artifacts, commodities, ideas are moved, translated, transformed, adapted and negotiated by different social actors, sometime in distant spatial contexts, in the past and in the present. The global and local scenarios call for new experts, trained in historical and cultural studies, but ready for political and social action today.

This unique joint programme is co-developed within the framework of the 4EU+ European University Alliance by the University of Milan, the Charles University of Prague and the University of Warsaw. It is taught in English and aims to provide students with an understanding of social and political opportunities and challenges posed by global and intra-EU migration. It provides skills to interpret complex political and socio-economic phenomena in a critical way and appraise their normative, social, political and anthropological implications.

The European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMIR) is the first African-European-Asian Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) in migration studies and is jointly run by three African, four European, and two Asian partners: University of Oldenburg in Germany, University of Stavanger in Norway, University of South Bohemia in Czech Republic, University of Nova Gorica in Slovenia, Ahfad University for Women in Sudan, Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda, University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, and the Mahanirban Calcutta Research Group and Rabindra Bharati University in India. They jointly provide the content and the logistics for EMMIR as a fully integrated study programme with various elements of joint teaching and awarding a Joint master’s degree registered with EQAR (European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education). EMMIR is an EMJM co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Key Action 2.

This master's programme provides an advanced critical insight into current developments in the study of migration, organised crime and human trafficking. It is unique in offering students the chance to study the main characteristics of modern forms of slavery and human trafficking, causes/roots, impacts, and methods (legal and others) of prevention.
