Using the M.A. track offered at the Melton Centre as a strong base, we have developed a blended On-Site and Distance MA Program (non-research intended for students’ resident overseas) in Jewish Education, which is offered to Jewish educators in Jewish communities around the world. The program consists of a minor dissertation and the two modules listed below. Students, in collaboration with the Department, choose two modules from the list below. Modules are offered over two semesters. Each module is examined by means of an examination with a weighting of 45 credits each. The minor dissertation has a weighting of 90 credits.

This interdisciplinary Master’s Programme aims to develop in students deep social-scientific knowledge about the Middle East of today. It trains students in critical thinking and gives them the ability to apply this to current events and debates in and about the region. The social-scientific focus of the programme means that students will learn how to apply various theories and research methodologies to study the societies, politics, and contemporary history of countries in the region and their populations both at home and in the diaspora.

The MA in East Asian Regional Studies is designed for those wishing to focus on a social science approach to modern East Asia. The program provides interdisciplinary training through intensive exposure to the politics, international relations, modern history, culture, and society of the region with a country or area of focus (e.g., China, Japan, Korea, or Tibet). The program is tailored to meet the needs of individuals entering professional careers, mid-career professionals, students preparing for entry to doctoral programs, and those pursuing a professional degree, such as the JD or MBA, who want to gain regional expertise.

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures offers a PhD (MA/MPhil/PhD) program with an interdisciplinary approach to the literature, culture, history, and languages of East Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Tibet, and Vietnam) and a particular emphasis on critical methodology and comparative study. An array of East Asian courses in other areas such as political science, sociology, anthropology, art, law, history, and business is also available, as are interdisciplinary programs with the Departments of Religion and History. The department’s close ties with various East Asian institutions in New York City and abroad provide a stimulating cultural environment.

Our International Master’s program in Jewish Studies offers a unique combination of Judaic Studies incorporating Biblical and Talmudic Studies, alongside Jewish History, Philosophy, and Mysticism. From the Biblical era to early Modern Era, our students expand their knowledge in Biblical Studies, the Dead Sea Scrolls, early and late Antiquity, the Middle Ages, early Modern, and Modern Jewish History and Thought. Our study program is divided into three chronological cohorts: Biblical; Antiquity (Rabbinics); and Medieval through the Modern period, and enables participation in other International School programs such as Israel Studies, Holocaust Studies, Hebrew or Arabic.
