Our Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) course combines theoretical academic study with practical application and skills development in English language teaching.

The MLitt in Biblical Languages and Literature offers students with existing competence in Biblical languages the opportunity to increase their linguistic and exegetical skills through sustained close and critical engagement with the Biblical texts and themes.

SOAS’s MA Linguistics and Intensive Language programme is unique in its focus on the languages of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as the communities who speak them and are working to support and revitalise them.  This 2-year programme is meant for students who wish to combine rigorous training in the discipline of linguistics with the intensive study of one or more African or Asian languages.

The MA in Korean Studies is designed either to prepare the student for advanced graduate work in a wide range of subjects related to Korea, or as an end/qualification in itself. The programme explores the history, politics, art, music and literature of Korea, as well as providing opportunities to study the languages of the region.

The master's degree in Ancient Cultures and Languages is unique in Europe, due to its specific character and course structure. It provides instruction in the three fundamental ancient languages ' Greek, Latin and Hebrew ' and offers the chance to specialize in the cultures of two geographical areas of the ancient world, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, which were immersed in a process of 'fruitful interaction' for many centuries. The course plots a course from the origins of Mesopotamian civilization to the present day, taking in the languages, scripts and cultural manifestations of the ancient world.

MA Iranian Studies and Intensive Language is a unique programme, run by very few universities worldwide. At SOAS, you’ll have the benefit of studying in the centre of London, have the opportunity to learn Persian and other Middle Eastern languages, and link with research centres such as the Centre for Iranian Studies and the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies.

The Master's in Languages and Business Relations offers a second cycle university degree to first-cycle degree holders who want to develop their competences in languages, management and marketing, and ICTs. Providing grounding in the knowledge and skills necessary to identify problems and define strategies for an adequate and sustainable response to them, this degree Program aims to meet a varied range of needs: it can furnish complementary training for new graduates, offer a path to professional development and to the renewal of the competences of medium/long term graduates, and/or afford the necessary scientific training to those pursuing investigation and development.

The MA in Middle Eastern Studies provides exceptional opportunities for studying this diverse and fascinating area at the postgraduate level through a variety of disciplinary approaches. The main emphasis of the programme is on the modern period through the modules in history, geography, politics, economics and anthropology. Some exposure is provided, however, to the pre-modern culture and society of the area through modules in religious studies, Islamic art and archaeology, and history.

Research Degrees (MPhil/PhD) in Japanese and Korean Studies is able to supervise MPhil and PhD degrees by research and thesis in a wide range of cultural and linguistic subjects. Intending research students should not feel constrained to limit their choice of topics to those indicated against the names of current staff members (postgraduate students have recently been working on a range of topics that include Japanese cinema, Kabuki texts, modern Japanese linguistics and literature, Meiji historical texts, Korean linguistics and literature, Korean colonial and eighteenth-century history).

SOAS’s MA History and Intensive Language programme is one of the few UK Master-level degrees in History which focuses on the histories of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. With its high concentration of expertise of these regions, the programme offers an unrivalled breadth of courses on these regions’ respective as well as interconnected histories. It can also be taken with an intensive language pathway over two years, therefore making this programme unique in Europe.

In the MA TESOL program, candidates explore language learning and teaching theories and practices in various sociocultural settings, both locally and globally.
