Master of Arts in Media, Democracy, and Human Rights. Are you interested in analyzing the media’s role in society? Do you want to influence media development in line with democratic principles and human rights? This master’s program enables you to become an active agent in media development in an international context.

The Law School also has a long tradition of committing ourselves to develop the transferable skills of students through projects such as Advanced Lawyering and Moot Court, and through cutting edge core modules such as Alternative Dispute Resolution. All of these initiatives promote ‘big picture’ holistic thinking, and can explicitly enhance student soft skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, communication, teamwork, planning, critical thinking and human relations skills. In combination with our compulsory clinical education initiatives, they provide an integrating impulse –promoting a sense of coherence across particular programmes of study and facilitating students in understanding how their learning applies in particular contexts. MSc Humanitarian Action (Online) is an online degree that engages critically with the history, politics and practice of humanitarian action. Students take the core module, followed by a selection of elective modules and a final dissertation. How and where is humanitarian aid given, and how does it interact with the political and military complexities of emergency contexts? How have critiques of humanitarian aid, including from recipients, impacted humanitarian action? How does South-to-South assistance in emergencies change, challenge or complement the concepts and practice of humanitarianism?

This training combines the expertise in strategic and geopolitical analysis of IRIS and the experience of NGOs and recognized actors of international solidarity. It aims to develop the knowledge and skills at the heart of the profession of humanitarian manager. These skills are acquired by working on projects in partnership with actors from the humanitarian and development sectors. Since 2014, some forty organizations have already submitted some sixty projects to students. The training is provided face-to-face with a common core along with three courses, and remotely in blended learning.

Violence against women is one of the most serious problems facing society. This situation is situated in the context of intimate partner violence, understood as that which is exercised in the context of an intimate relationship by one member of the couple towards the other.

This course combines the study of the main theories and concepts related to human rights and global ethics with detailed empirical analysis of issues such as intelligence, slavery, citizenship, refugees, animal rights, security and war. By taking this course you will gain a thorough grounding in the political and international theory of human rights and global ethics. You will develop your knowledge of the different theoretical and political perspectives on human rights and study in depth the global political context of pressing ethical issues.

The MA program in social justice and human rights addresses urgent social issues related to human security, labour, migration, children, family, education, and the environment. The coursework in this theoretically and methodologically rigorous program examines social issues in contexts defined by multiple intersecting forms of social identity and disadvantage, including gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and nationality.
