The MA program “Human Geography: Globalisation, Media, and Culture” offers a critical human geographic perspective on an entangled globalized world as well as a thorough engagement with current debates relating to globalization, (digital) media, and culture. In our seminars, we combine theoretical debates and empirical research practice and insights into a range of different research methods, techniques and practical skills e. g. the production of short films, podcasts or blogs. Our institute provides you with an exciting teaching and research environment complemented by international visiting scholars and experts. Within your studies, you have the chance to design and carry out your own empirical research project during an on-site workshop. This programme provides you with a rigorous grounding in social theory and mainstream debates and techniques in human geography. It also offers a thorough training in qualitative and quantitative methods. Options allow for the development of specialisms in historical-cultural themes, postcolonial and decolonial geographies, spatial modelling, and debates surrounding environmental conflict and science and technology.

Coastal Communities and Regional Development is an international, multidisciplinary master’s program on the development of rural and remote areas in the past and in the future.

The Master's programme in Human Geography addresses the relationship between human activities and their spatial environment in a number of topical fields. It takes a critical, emancipatory approach to the field by engaging with the less privileged in society, but also trying to contribute to positive change and development in many different fields. Within the Master's Human Geography, you have a choice between four important Master's specialisations, as well as the option to add to this with an Educational Master.

The master’s degree in Geography and Territorial Sciences trains professionals capable of integrating cultural, socio-economic, technical and planning knowledge for spatial and environmental analysis, organisation and management. As such, it trains a new generation of skilled workers and citizens who can effectively deal with the unprecedented contemporary societal, economic and political challenges both locally and internationally

In the master's in Economic Geography, you will learn to understand these region-specific socio-economic development paths. We focus on the actions of people and firms and how they govern regional economic development: where do entrepreneurs start their businesses, how do firms grow, where do people live, where do they move to and which jobs do they have? Can we understand their choices? With this information on an individual level, you will be able to understand regional developments and formulate policy avenues to govern such processes locally, nationally and internationally.

By focusing on the context of environmental, socio-cultural and politico-economic decision-making and their interconnections, geography graduates are well placed to excel in varied careers and contribute effectively to solving some of the most pressing problems of our time.

The objective of the course is to train specialists to carry out studies of the territory that serve as a basis for territorial planning in terms of territorial sustainability, as well as natural resources, particularly soil as a scarce resource, by the Administrations and the company.

This master's degree aims to train specialists in planning and managing the territory from a multi-scale perspective, covering urban, rural, peri-urban and natural spaces. Its objective is to transmit the necessary skills so that its graduates are capable of leading work teams for territorial planning and urban planning. This entails the preparation of planning documents (binding or indicative) and the design of participatory processes in line with territorial development. It starts from a resolutely multidisciplinary approach and pays special attention to the sustainability of the territory in its environmental, economic and socio-cultural dimensions.

The MRes in Human Geography: Spaces, Politics, Ecologies engages at an advanced level with conceptual debates in human geography, cutting edge methodological approaches and the skills needed to communicate geographical ideas beyond the academy. The course will equip you with the knowledge and skills appropriate to undertake independent research in human geography.
