The MSE in Biomedical Engineering prepares students to pursue a variety of careers in research, industry, consulting, government, and more. Many of our students also continue their education through Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. programs. Students are provided theoretical instruction in the traditional engineering disciplines, given exposure to specialized biomedical engineering topics, and have the opportunity through, the “thesis track” degree option, to participate in supervised research projects. In addition to the thesis track, which typically takes two years to complete (one year of coursework plus one year of research), students have the option to complete the MSE degree in one year through coursework specializing in one of seven focus areas.

The Master of Bioethics degree is a new collaborative program of the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. An innovative, interdisciplinary, and cross-divisional graduate program, the goal of the MBE program is to prepare students from diverse individual and professional backgrounds for the bioethics challenges of professional and civic life. The rigorous pursuit of human wellbeing through health care and research has resulted in tremendous gains, locally and globally, for the benefit of individuals and populations. From the first ventilator to the first vaccine, such scientific and technological discoveries have been used to prolong life and alleviate human suffering while advancing health-related knowledge. These advancements, however, often present challenging ethical questions — for individuals and society — about appropriate use, access, safety, and rights and obligations, among many others.

The Master of Health Administration program is designed to prepare and develop leaders for a rapidly changing world. The program was once again ranked in the top 10 (#9) of graduate programs in health administration per the 2019 U.S. News & World Report. This accelerated program provides a rigorous and comprehensive academic experience with a career-building administrative residency in top organizations across the country.

The Master of Health Science (MHS) in Global Health Economics is a 9-month academic program that teaches students how to use economic tools to help solve pressing global health problems. Through this degree program, students will learn how health economic principles are used to address global issues such as migration, displaced persons, climate change and pandemics. They’ll also learn how health economics can be used to promote healthy lifestyles, positive health outcomes, and equitable access to care. Using applied health cases from around the world, students will learn how to conduct economic evaluations of health programs and how to evaluate the impact of social problems on the health of a community or population.

The Master of Health Science Program (MHS) is designed to meet the needs of students who require graduate-level preparation for careers in medicine, research, and public health. MMI MHS students go on to medical school, to achieve an advanced graduate education, and to take on positions in public health and industry. The MHS program is completed in one academic year.

The Master of Health Science degree is organized around a core set of four terms of graduate courses and a final research paper that demonstrates mastery of what has been learned in the coursework experience.

The Master of Health Science (MHS) in Health Economics and Outcomes Research is offered by the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. The MHS in Health Economics and Outcomes Research is a nine-month academic program that offers students a foundation in evaluation methods necessary to promote the efficient and equitable allocation of healthcare resources in public health. Mastering these methods enables the graduates of the MHS program to evaluate healthcare and work with stakeholders and decision-makers to identify relevant regulatory policies, strategies, and interventions. The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology provides students with the professional skills necessary to become powerful and compassionate advocates for people with communication disorders.

The academic Master of Health Science (MHS) program is designed for those with a desire to enhance their research skills in public health and includes both methods and content courses.

The two-year Master of Science Program (ScM) is designed for students preparing for Ph.D. programs or considering upper-level research positions in academia, government, or industry. The degree is constructed to provide students with a capacity to perform independent research and a firm understanding of research principles and practices.

The Master of Health Science (MHS) degree is designed for students interested in gaining knowledge and training in Epidemiology who may not have had significant prior work experience in the field. MHS candidates may apply directly from undergraduate programs as long as they have had some scientific, biologic, research, or laboratory experience and have met the prerequisite courses. MHS students may fulfill the thesis requirement by completing a systematic literature review, performing secondary data analysis, or completing a program or project proposal. The MHS degree program begins in late August/early September, with the first year devoted to coursework followed by research and thesis, usually requiring an additional year in residence. The MHS program requires that students complete at least 64 credits of coursework with a cumulative 2.75 GPA (B or higher average), successfully pass the written comprehensive exams, and produce a publishable quality manuscript of their own work. Students work closely with their advisers to develop their research questions and design their projects.

The GDEC Program trains students to use epidemiologic and biostatistical methods to design, implement, and evaluate disease control interventions of public health importance to underserved populations. Students have the opportunity to work with faculty at field sites across the world, gaining hands-on experience in global health research and program implementation.

The MHS in Social Factors in Health is an advanced research degree for students with undergraduate exposure to social and behavioral sciences and/or public health who are interested in further training in the theory and methods in this area. The program is intended to prepare students either for further doctoral training in public health or to work in a public health research or policy position. The focus of the MHS in Social Factors program in the Department of Health, Behavior and Society is on integrating and applying a broad range of knowledge and analytical skills in social aspects of contemporary public health problems.
