The MA in Fine Arts can be completed with an emphasis in Drawing and Painting. This degree program provides students with the creative and technical skills needed to thrive in today’s art world. Students will leave with professional-level portfolios and an understanding of the business of art.

The Master of Fine Art program provides students a framework for advanced study in drawing and painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Students are focused on technical and conceptual development in figurative, abstract, or landscape work. The School of Fine Art provides graduate students with studio space, exhibition galleries, and world-class facilities.

The MPhil (Fine Art) is a practice-based postgraduate research programme. The aim of the programme is the generation of a contribution to knowledge and understanding in the discipline of Fine Art.

The MFA Fine Art programme is aimed at artists and recent graduates who want to advance their art practices, engage with the relationships between contemporary art and theory and consider what art might be in relation to today’s social, cultural and political situations.

The three-year international Master in Fine Arts (iMFA) program under the guidance of the Institute of Radio, Film, and Television, equips students with practical skills like script writing, film and television production, and new media audio-visual editing. Our students will take academic and practice-based courses with faculty members from CMIC, while having the opportunity to choose business-related courses at ZIBS. Mentors of this program graduated from world-class universities like the University of Michigan and the University of Art in Berlin. Established practitioners are hired as visiting scholars.

The new MFA in Fine Art at Kingston School of Art offers a unique blend of studio and theoretical training. On the programme, you will develop your practice as an artist while critically reflecting on and locating that practice within a changing social, political and cultural context. You will have the opportunity to take one art theory module with the world-renowned Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP), and work across a range of media, taking advantage of the School's new cutting-edge workshops.

Contemporary Art Practice (CAP) at the Royal College of Art is a cutting-edge MA programme in the School of Arts & Humanities that is driven by a post-medium, critical approach to the making and reception of art, where theory and practice come together to form new ways of responding to the contemporary world. The programme supports the development of your art practice within a responsive, dialogical and critical context with an emphasis on wider political issues – interrogating art production in relation to urgent socio-political contexts as well as questioning and redefining practice.

The Art and Visual Culture MA is part of the Cultural and Literary Studies Suite, a cluster of four MAs that bring together academics, curators and practitioners who share a commitment to investigating modern and contemporary culture from aesthetic, critical, literary, and experiential perspectives. You'll share classes with students from the Cultural and Critical Studies MA, the English Literature: Modern and Contemporary Fictions MA, and the Museum, Galleries and Contemporary Culture MA, joining a fruitful and intellectually-rigorous environment designed to facilitate the sprouting of interdisciplinary thinking. As part of our Suite, you may also choose an option module from the other three MA programmes (what is referred to as an ‘elective’ module), a fantastic opportunity to explore a facet of culture outside of your chosen MA programme. The Art and Visual Culture MA is an interdisciplinary, visual theory-based course established around the belief that visual literacy and the impact of visual forms of thinking and working play significant roles in our society. In the course, we interrogate visual perception and representation in high and popular culture, explore how these produce meanings, and how such meanings shape societies and individuals.

The first Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing in the UK, this course offers talented and aspiring writers the chance to refine their craft under the tutelage of acclaimed professionals and develop a unique combination of creative and practical skills on this course, in preparation for a career as a published writer.

The MA/MFA Art and Social Action is 1-year a postgraduate programme focused on trans-disciplinary practice and thinking that privileges collaborative approaches to production and creative approaches to social transformation, emphasising the capacity of art practice to imagine our world differently.

Designed for students whose creative practice is predominately rooted in drawing. Candidates for the program will be seeking new contexts and experiences for developing established/existing practices. Drawing is understood as more than a support or preparation for other disciplines: it is considered the work.

The Visual Development MFA program provides advanced coursework in still life painting, figure drawing, character design, concept painting, layout design for animation, and other core skills of professional visual developers. The goal of each graduate student is the completion of a signature thesis book showcasing design work for a story-based project.

Explore the horizons of your talents in the midst of an intense, critical dialogue of both faith and art. You’ll generate this dialogue with distinguished visitors and a faculty composed of experienced artists and designers mature in their faith and craft. You’ll engage in highly collaborative relationships with MFA program mentor-professors, and hone your talent through critique and individual instruction.

Our Master in Filmmaking is aimed at international students who are fluent in English and hold a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in cinema and audio-visual studies, or in another field but with a keen interest in artistic careers. It trains students to a high level of competence in all aspects of cinema-related work: directing, writing, image and post-production. It enables them to develop both their creative vision and technical expertise. At the end of this training, our graduates have the skills to design, present and deliver fictional projects, documentaries, advertisements, and musical clips.

With the progression of researches in fine arts, design, and multiple media, independent specialized programs at the Graduate School of Fine Arts (Japanese Painting; Oil Painting and Woodcut Printing; Sculpture; Design; Ceramics; and Art History, Theory, and Conservation) were combined into the single Fine Arts program in 2007. This is not only to establish a system suited to the needs of the times; when education and research are sophisticated, and interdisciplinary studies are developed, but also to enhance each conventional specialization. Also, in order to apply the university's researches to practical endeavors, the Graduate School has established projects to reinforce interdisciplinary studies, and those to serve the development of the local community and society.
