At Emerson College, we recognize that writing is your passion. Our on-campus MFA in Creative Writing emphasizes both the craft of writing and its literary foundations. By graduation, you'll have completed a professional thesis—be it a novel or excerpt, nonfiction book or excerpt, or a collection of poems, short stories, or essays—ready for agents, publishers, or digital publication. Housed in the Department of Writing, Literature, and Publishing within the School of the Arts, our program features an exceptional faculty and is home to two award-winning literary journals, offering strong connections to the Boston publishing community. Pursue your passion by choosing from genres like literary fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, while exploring writing as both an art form and a professional career.

As a university course, the Master’s Degree in Stop Motion Animation provides unique training at the national and international level, delivered by a team of highly qualified multidisciplinary professionals that includes internationally renowned auteurs/animators with extensive experience in both the professional and educational fields.

The three-year international Master in Fine Arts (iMFA) program under the guidance of the Institute of Radio, Film, and Television, equips students with practical skills like script writing, film and television production, and new media audio-visual editing. Our students will take academic and practice-based courses with faculty members from CMIC, while having the opportunity to choose business-related courses at ZIBS. Mentors of this program graduated from world-class universities like the University of Michigan and the University of Art in Berlin. Established practitioners are hired as visiting scholars.

The MA in Fine Arts can be completed with an emphasis in Drawing and Painting. This degree program provides students with the creative and technical skills needed to thrive in today’s art world. Students will leave with professional-level portfolios and an understanding of the business of art.

The Master of Fine Art program provides students a framework for advanced study in drawing and painting, printmaking, and sculpture.
