In global business, disputes and conflicts are inevitable. The University of Bolton (UoB) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have co-developed an MBA in Alternative Dispute Resolution programme, designed to equip students with the skills to develop efficient, practical, and astute strategies for resolving such issues, outside of the traditional courtroom setting.

The LL.M. degree program consists of 24 credits hours of study and can normally be completed in a year, although a part-time option is available for domestic students in the LL.M. in Dispute Resolution program.

The course is intended for anyone wishing to demonstrate a commitment to contentious law in public and private international and commercial legal contexts. The taught part of the programme includes modules which reflect the three main forms of the dispute resolution process, namely adjudication (litigation and arbitration), alternative dispute resolution (ADR – principally mediation), and negotiation.

The course covers extensive detail areas such as arbitration, international dispute settlement, dispute resolution procedure, and investment arbitration. The MA is a unique and innovative interdisciplinary programme that provides students with the academic knowledge and practical skills to resolve disputes between parties in a non-adversarial manner. Upon successful completion of the MA, students receive both a QQI Level 9 academic qualification. The LLM in Transnational and European Commercial Law, Banking Law, and Arbitration/Mediation Program aims to provide a thorough analysis of commercial law, banking law, and alternative dispute resolution within a transnational, EU, and international context.

The Master of Arts Degree in International Law and the Settlement of Disputes (face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats) offers students an understanding of the role that international law and institutions play in the settlement of international and transnational disputes. This specialization examines the role of national and international courts and tribunals in contributing to the settlement of disputes. As international and transnational adjudication has acquired a more prominent role in international relations, it is essential to understand how these global and regional courts are responding to the challenges of the early 21st Century. Students will examine the role of law in traditional and not-so traditional territorial and boundary disputes, and acquire an overview of the law of the sea. And finally, they will be examine the increasingly important field of dispute settlement in international economic relations, which will include investment arbitration.

The LL.M. AWArDS program is aimed at professionals, lawyers, and advanced students seeking solid and profound knowledge of international arbitration and investment arbitration. All participants will benefit from the experience of highly respected international academics and practitioners within the international arbitration, investment arbitration, and dispute resolution sectors, and with diversified and complementary roles (full-time law professors in France or from foreign countries, lawyers, international arbitrators, quantum experts, third party funders, etc.).
