The MA Directing course equips students with a comprehensive skill set to work across all screen platforms – film, television, commercials, and online. During their studies, students will complete a unique industry project which will provide the experience of working with external clients.

This MA Directing will give you contemporary, practical training, to become an integral part of the next generation of theatre directors.  Through skills classes and project-based learning, you will be given the time, resources and rehearsal room access you need to develop your craft. 

This advanced and rigorous MA/ MFA Contemporary Directing Practice program offers an experiential two-year course, where students will develop their vocabulary and find their own voice and vision as a director while acquiring and honing a diverse variety of skills, techniques, tools, and devices.

The two-year master’s studies allow more freedom than bachelor’s studies, providing opportunities to engage in independent artistic work. You will actively participate in the planning and implementation of your own studies, as well as in developing the field of art that the degree program represents.

The master’s degree provides students with the knowledge and techniques required to direct audiovisual works in any format. Students will learn about the director’s job and perform this role and the ones of the other members of the direction department during the preproduction, shooting, and postproduction processes.

The Master in Cinematographic Direction offers you the artistic and technical knowledge of the cinematographic direction necessary for any audiovisual work.

The two-year program in directing is focused on developing individual students` personal talent aptitudes and on independent artistic creation with the goal of proceeding from staging shorter dramatic productions to directing a feature-length play in the DAMU´s own Disk Theatre or other theatrical space which makes it possible to develop the collaboration of all production components in circumstances commensurate with the demands of a professional theatre.

AFI gives Directing Fellows the crucial time, space, and resources to craft their own distinct voice while guaranteeing them the opportunity to direct over the course of two years. In a program that emphasizes visual language and collaboration, Fellows team with other disciplines to shoot three narrative films and produce a thesis film in their final year to create a polished directing portfolio.

Directing of Devised and Object theatre aims to provide students with the space to explore new ways of creating and doing contemporary performances. The program focuses on research and development of materials, creating specific performance structures, and proposes new ways for the audience to perceive/experience the performance. Focus on objects and other material aspects of performance tend to ground the students in researching the existing material and view it not only as something to be used in the performance but something to be explored.

The mission of the Film MFA in Screenwriting/Directing is to rigorously train storytellers in film, television, and digital media. The course of study at our film school includes two years of creative workshops and related courses, followed by one-to-two years of thesis and Research Arts work. Students are immersed in the principles and working methods of a variety of genres and dramatic forms. Through multiple exercises and short film and script projects (both short and feature-length), they are encouraged to explore their understanding of the medium, with the ultimate goal of establishing each student’s personal voice.

This unique two-year course is designed to equip you with the skills to write, direct and animate award-winning films.

The acting program is a three-year, minimum 60-credit-hour professional actor-training program interacting with the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, a professional Equity League of Resident Theatres (LORT) B Theatre.
