Master's in Dance

Performing Public Space (PPS) is committed to understanding how cultural developments can produce meaningful change within our shared spaces, based on the idea that public space exists only when it is socially performed. In a time in which political and social structures are reconsidered heavily, PPS offers a flexible and innovative environment to artistically question, redefine, and reclaim public space in its broadest sense.

The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance offers graduate students a unique international and multi-cultural environment for study and for personal and artistic growth.

It addresses dance, movement and related practices as Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) from the perspectives of Ethnochoreology, the Anthropology of Dance, Sport and Movement, Heritage Studies, and Technology for Dance and Sport. It focuses on fieldwork and engages with movement analysis, motion capture, ethnographic and documentation techniques. 

Within the context of contemporary movement practice, our postgraduate dance program is designed to build your knowledge and skills of creative dance practices and will appeal to entrepreneurial dance artists who are keen to develop their practice. We offer a range of creative opportunities to enhance your studies. Alongside guidance from your tutors, our Master’s Dance degree is supported by several high-profile associations with artists and industry specialists to enhance your study experience.

The Master’s Programme in Dance Pedagogy at HAMU is a three-year, full-time course taught in English, designed for graduates seeking advanced professional and methodological expertise in dance education. The programme allows students to specialise in one of three pathways: Methods of Classical Ballet Technique, Methods of Modern and Contemporary Dance, or Methods of Folk Dance.

Would you like to use dance and movement to support people in change processes? On Germany's only Master's degree program in Dance and Movement Therapy, you will learn how to use dance and movement in a variety of therapeutic and social contexts.

The master’s programme in dance performance consists of two years of full-time studies that develop your skills as a performer and as an independent and reflective artist. After graduating, you will be ready to work in the diverse and changing contexts of dance art. You will develop as a solo performer and as an active member of an artistic team.

This programme provides you with a broad understanding of the theories and practices of dance movement therapy necessary for safe and effective clinical work, and enables you to practise as a dance movement therapist.

The Master's Degree program in Dance, with a specialization in choreography/composition or performance, is designed to equip creators and performers with the tools that will enable them to find their own creative and interpretive language and an educated and sophisticated artistic perspective.

We see art pedagogy as a form of artistic activity where pedagogical questions are ever-present. In the context of art pedagogy, we consider art, performance and teaching as encounters where aesthetic, ethical and political phenomena are intertwined. When art and pedagogy come together, they both change.

The Master’s Programme in Choreology at HAMU is a two-year, full-time course taught in English, designed for graduates who wish to deepen their expertise in dance history, theory, and methodology. The programme provides advanced academic training in choreology, combining theoretical study, methodological practice, and research-driven approaches.

This part-time 2-year innovative Joint Degree Master Choreography is run jointly by Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam and Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg. The program is designed to support experienced movement makers from a variety of fields while they carry out research into questions initiated from their current practice.
