Our MA in Creative Writing, available full-time and part-time, will help you to bring a novel, book of poems, book of short stories, or work of non-fiction as near to publishable quality as possible. Full-time students take the course in one year; part-time students in two.

The course in Master of Creative Writing (MCW) will be taught through a combination of group writing workshops and one-on-one supervision by an established writer. It will be supplemented by special events featuring guest writers and public readings. Places in the course are limited.

The Master of Fine Arts in Writing program offers graduate students an intimate, personalized learning experience while taking advantage of San Francisco’s vibrant, eclectic literary scene. Founded in 1986, the program is designed to instruct writers in creative techniques, nurture their individual development and vision, and help them thrive in the larger community of writers.

The Master of Arts in Songwriting is a one year, full-time postgraduate program, which focuses on the artistic practice of songwriting with opportunities to perform and record work. The course is cognisant of the wide variety of approaches to songwriting that one might adopt and will not attempt to be a ‘how-to’. Rather, this is a space where students can explore and be exposed to a range of writing techniques, whilst having the dedicated time and resources to develop their own body of work. This will be through a combination of solo work and collaboration with a community of fellow songwriters with guidance from songwriting mentors.

The international master Creative Writing is a unique two-year programme for graduate writing talent. More than a writing programme, it explores the craft in its broadest sense, with a focus on critical research, artistic experimentation, and meaningful engagement with the European literary field.

Our Master in Filmmaking is aimed at international students who are fluent in English and hold a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in cinema and audio-visual studies, or in another field but with a keen interest in artistic careers. It trains students to a high level of competence in all aspects of cinema-related work: directing, writing, image and post-production. It enables them to develop both their creative vision and technical expertise. At the end of this training, our graduates have the skills to design, present and deliver fictional projects, documentaries, advertisements, and musical clips.

MFA program creates space for creative writers to thrive. Over four semesters plus a graduation residency, students write prolifically in their own area of concentration, explore across genres, examine the interrelatedness of the arts, gain editorial experience on a literary journal, learn about the writing business, and complete a creative thesis — all while becoming part of a lasting community.
