About the Graduate Communication Disorders MS Program Ranked among the top graduate programs of its kind nationwide by U.S. News & World Report, Emerson College’s on-campus Communication Disorders MS program will provide you with the academic and hands-on clinical experience to make an impact on the lives of people living with speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders. You will be exposed to a variety of clients with speech and language disorders and diverse populations that will prepare you for a wide range of career opportunities. Housed in the School of Communication’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the course of study offers you the opportunity to apply developmental, cognitive, psychosocial, behavioral, and medical models to the assessment and treatment of a broad range of communication delays and disorders. The program is designed to fulfill the requirements of the American Speech-Language-Hearing (ASHA) Certification.

Whenever we use language – whether it’s written, spoken or signed – we’re communicating. How does this work, and how and why does miscommunication occur? How does language fit together and how do we learn to understand each other?

An acceptable level of proficiency in English or Afrikaans is required.

Home to the National Centre for Audiology and the H.A. Leeper Speech and Hearing Clinic, the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) educates students in the professions of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.

The Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology graduate program enables students to develop professional knowledge and clinical skills. Traditional and non-traditional students will demonstrate leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities professionally and competently in various clinical settings.

For students who are interested in becoming a speech-language pathologist, the Master of Arts (M.A.) education program in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Florida offers a comprehensive program of academic and clinical education.

The program prepares students to meet the academic and practicum requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology awarded through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. State licensure is awarded through the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Students are also eligible to meet the requirements for teaching certification and state licensure in most states. Small classes facilitate individual instruction and attention for all students. Opportunities to develop research skills are provided to students through the required completion of a pilot research project.
