The Master of Chemical Engineering is aimed at developing students for both industry and research, such that they deepen their expertise in Chemical Engineering and develop research capacity in high-level methods and techniques of the discipline.

This master's degree aims to take graduates beyond their bachelor’s degree and acquire a higher level of expertise in chemical engineering. Graduates will be highly trained in designing products and processes related to chemical engineering. They will also have a strong professional grounding because their work placement and master's theses will be conducted primarily in the chemical industry (i.e. in companies and organizations outside the university).

The Master of Science in Chemical Engineering is more than just chemistry: it is the application of chemical engineering principles to the development of technical products and to the design, control, and improvement of industrial processes. The result is the rational exploitation of resources and energy while respecting environmental and safety issues during all phases of research, development and operation.

Chemical Engineering involves the development of sustainable and safe Processes to convert raw materials into value-added products. In a word, “Transformation”! Thus, a Chemical Engineer is devoted to the design, development, sizing, improvement, application and operation of Processes (chemical, physical or biological) that allow the desired Products to be obtained.

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering offers a Masters in Engineering (MEng) course-based degree program that is structured to advance knowledge of practical interest in specialized fields and to provide students with the skills necessary to address key technological challenges. This degree program is well-suited for working professionals and those seeking careers in the industrial sector. Our MEng program provides opportunities to gain industry-related experience through co-op placements and industry-sponsored projects. MEng is a one-year program. Students are required to complete 10 courses OR 8 courses and a project.

Graduate students enrolled in the Chemical and Biological Engineering master’s programs have the option of a master of science degree with or without a thesis. Those students enrolled in the M.S. program have the option to complete thesis research work in addition to the yearlong coursework required for a master's degree without a thesis.

The objective of this master's degree is to train professionals with a specialized and multidisciplinary nature in the field of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering, with responsibilities in conceiving, projecting, calculating and designing processes, equipment, industrial facilities and services, in terms of quality, safety, economy, rational and efficient use of natural resources and environmental conservation.

Informed by the needs of a decarbonised industry, this course provides the opportunity to develop the strong communication and leadership skills in sustainability and net-zero that employers are looking for today. It aims to provide an extension beyond undergraduate study for those embarking on, changing, or advancing their chosen career in the chemical industry.

The Bioengineering master's program provides a broad engineering and biotechnology curriculum while offering a focus on a specific engineering track that best fits students' interests and career choices. This combination gives our bioengineering graduates professional flexibility, a distinct competitive advantage in the ever-changing field of bioengineering.

The Master of Science in Chemical Engineering is oriented toward engineering design and practice. Some of the specialties students will study include surface science, biochemical engineering, catalysis, pulp, and paper engineering, environmental engineering, waste conversion, computer-aided process design and simulation, novel bioseparations systems, and chemical kinetics, and reactor design.
