The international Master’s programme in Materials Science and Chemical Engineering at NTNU is designed for students who want to dive deep into the science behind advanced materials and chemical processes, and apply this knowledge to solve real-world challenges.

Like many of the programmes available at ÅAU, this programme has been carefully structured to ensure that graduates are not only equipped with the necessary skills to succeed within their chosen career, but also, to ensure that they are adaptable to the ever-changing face of modern industries. Through practical and theoretical studies, this two-year programme aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of sustainable chemical and process engineering as a field and its imperative value to the growth of areas such as biofuel, energy efficiency, waste management and many more.

Our 36-unit professional sciences master's (PSM) program is a two-year, four-semester interdisciplinary program that provides students with a multi-disciplinary background that integrates scientific, business, and ethical aspects of biotechnology. The program is intended for students who do not wish to pursue a PhD but still seek a career in the industry.

The Chemical Engineering industry in Ireland is one of its strongest exporting sectors and is representative of the chemical process industries worldwide. The MEngSc in Chemical Engineering offers advanced level education for students with primary degrees in chemical engineering/technology programmes. In this programme, you will improve your conceptual and practical skills in both the fundamental and applied principles of chemical engineering practice.

Chemical Engineering MEng Honours is a four-year degree. It focuses on developing your knowledge and skills across many chemical engineering topics. Its aim is to provide a direct route to becoming a Chartered Chemical Engineer (CEng). This is one of the industry's most recognisable international qualifications.

The Master of Science in Chemical Engineering features core chemical engineering courses, electives, and concentrated research or independent study experience with the student’s faculty advisor. Electives may be focused on many special subjects, including bioengineering, environmental engineering, computer science, materials science, and manufacturing engineering. New initiatives are underway in the multidisciplinary area of environmental systems that should provide a wealth of opportunities to graduate students in chemical engineering.

The graduate aim is to deepen and broaden basic knowledge in chemical engineering and to develop an increased ability to address complex issues in a variety of areas of activity of the chemical engineer. Teaching and research faculty cover a broad range of topics such as phenomena and flow of fluids, actions foundation in chemical engineering, separation processes, petroleum, development of operation and process control engineering, reactors, adsorption and catalysis, engineering polymers and plastics, and biomedical engineering – Chemical and Biomedical, Biophysics, environmental engineering, microstructure and nanotechnology, particle systems, colloidal systems, complex fluids, space effects, processing and ceramic materials – lead, and the study of crystal growth processes in thin layers.

Provide students with proficient knowledge and advanced skills in Chemical Engineering to ensure that future masters (Level II Engineers) will be qualified to pursue professional activity in companies and industries directly or indirectly related to Chemical Engineering, in public or private research and development (RD) institutions, or to pursue further training in Chemical Engineering, or in related areas, at the level of a 3rd cycle (PhD).

A Master of Engineering programme based on original research in Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. The programme is offered by the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology. It can be pursued on either full-time or part-time basis.

In the Master’s Programme in Chemical Engineering for Energy Transition, you will learn how processes are developed and designed. You will learn traditional chemical engineering skills, modelling of unit operations, process simulation, process development, computational fluid dynamics, and product and process design. These studies give you excellent skills to work in any sector of the chemical or process industry.

Green Technologies in Chemical Engineering is an MSc programme for those who want to gain fundamental and practical knowledge of modern chemical processes’ development, design, and operation with a particular focus on sustainability. During these studies, students will acquire proficiency in implementing chemical, physical, and biochemical processing of raw materials into useful forms of advanced market products while minimising the environmental burden.

Master in Chemical Engineering and Technology aims to cultivate cross-cultural application-oriented engineering technicians equipped with basic theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills in the field of chemical engineering and technology, techniques, design, and discipline-crossing.

The Master of Chemical Engineering is aimed at developing students for both industry and research, such that they deepen their expertise in Chemical Engineering and develop research capacity in high-level methods and techniques of the discipline.

The master's degree in Chemical Engineering, which is equivalent to the engineering specialization in Industrial Chemistry, is intended for students who have obtained a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and want to acquire further training in this branch of knowledge. The course has a twofold objective: to complete students' basic training as a means of ensuring professional success in the chemical industry, and to provide the foundations for a career in applied research, examining problems related to the chemical industry.

This master's degree aims to take graduates beyond their bachelor’s degree and acquire a higher level of expertise in chemical engineering. Graduates will be highly trained in designing products and processes related to chemical engineering. They will also have a strong professional grounding because their work placement and master's theses will be conducted primarily in the chemical industry (i.e. in companies and organizations outside the university).

The Master of Science in Chemical Engineering is more than just chemistry: it is the application of chemical engineering principles to the development of technical products and to the design, control, and improvement of industrial processes. The result is the rational exploitation of resources and energy while respecting environmental and safety issues during all phases of research, development and operation.
