This joint Masters programme in Marine Biotechnology is an integrated multidisciplinary programme offered within the framework of one of the first transnational European universities. The programme provides the student with a high-quality academic education, building professional competences in the area of marine biotechnology (also called blue biotechnology) and helping to address its global challenges.

The Master of Biophysics, Biochemistry and Biotechnology is an international, interdisciplinary study programme. This programme focuses on the phenomena related to the interaction and communication between living cells and their molecular constituents, drawing on research methods used within the fields of molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry and physics.

With the increasing need for “green” industrial processes that would be both cost-efficient and sustainable, the contemporary world relies on industrial biotechnology experts more than ever. KTU’s master study programme in Industrial Biotechnology focuses on new research areas, which are bridging the competencies’ gap between different science and industry fields: production of bioproducts, synthesis of biologically active compounds, enzyme technology, bioprocess engineering, environmental biotechnology, renewable technology.

The Industrial Biotechnology program is carried out by the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences. Industrial Biotechnology is a degree program taught entirely in English. It integrates biological and technical sciences to exploit enzymes, organisms, and cells to produce products. Industrial Biotechnology is for individuals who are interested in making use of biological systems, living organisms, and enzymes to create or modify specific products or processes.

The international master degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology provides high levels of theoretical knowledge, technological and experimental expertise to design, conduct and manage research and development activities in biotechnologies applied to health, for the design, characterization, production, analysis, and formulation of innovative and biotechnological drugs, vaccines, diagnostic devices.

Molecular Biotechnology is a graduate (second-cycle) program of studies that leads to a Magister degree (Polish equivalent of a Master's degree). The study program is made up of compulsory courses and elective courses. Compulsory courses allow broadening your theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the following areas: molecular biotechnology, genetic engineering, biochemistry, cell biology, medical biotechnology, plant biotechnology, bioinformatics, the application of biotechnology in environmental protection, and protection of industrial property and copyright.

The aim of the program “Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Analysis” is to prepare highly qualified biotechnology specialists with knowledge of biotechnology and pharmaceutical analysis, able to develop, optimize and implement fermentation processes, and genetic engineering technologies, analyze and optimize separation and purification processes, able to properly perform qualitative and quantitative evaluation of analytes or continue doctoral studies.

The two years Master Course in Molecular Biotechnology is designed to provide the cultural background of multidisciplinary biotechnologies for the production of goods and services through the use of biological systems.

This master’s programme provides in-depth, interdisciplinary training in biochemical engineering as practised in various contexts and sectors. Particular areas of focus include food science, biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, and environmental sciences. In addition to fundamental (bio)chemical and scientific coursework, the curriculum includes assignments in socio-economics and biotechnology.

The Master in Cellular and Molecular Biotechnology (CMB) Over the last decade, significant methodological and conceptual advances in the life sciences area have enabled the development of the so-called “new biology.” This new biology is mainly based on the ability to study cells at a molecular level thanks to the increasing availability of genomic sequences of many species and the possibility to determine, in a comprehensive way, gene expression profiles as well as the interactions between biological macromolecules.

The aim of the program is to prepare the professionals that possess the advanced knowledge and skills in both biotechnology and materials science by combining the desing and problem-solving skills of engineering with the ones of biomedical sciences and are capable of using the acquired knowledge while solving practical problems in the biomedically oriented scientific research.

The Marine Biotechnology program at UiT’s the Norwegian College of Fishery Science aims to educate candidates in the broad field of biotechnology with emphasis on application to marine systems or “Blue Biotechnology”. Students become well prepared for careers in industry and/or research because of our joint focus on innovation and fundamental scientific principles placed between biology and engineering. Students receive one-on-one mentorship and supervision from a professional UiT researcher and typically join an established research group to complete their final project.

Medical Biotechnology students develop the skills to coordinate research projects in the field of biotechnology and molecular medicine. The program provides a thorough preparation in molecular technology for the biotechnological use of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells; students learn to design and develop research strategies aimed at applying emerging technology to the medical field; our research laboratories provide advanced training opportunities with state-of-the-art scientific equipment.
