In Groningen, we offer the MA in Classics & Ancient Civilizations: Ancient History as a one-year Master's track -in English- with a full-time and a part-time tangent. While we cover the whole of antiquity, from archaic Greece to the late Roman Empire, our focus lies on the political, cultural, and religious connectivities of the Mediterranean world.

The Master of Arts in The Ancient Mediterranean World: History, Archaeology and Art has the opportunity to study the Mediterranean World, considered through Archaeology and History in a unique perspective, combining the civilisations facing the Mediterranean from the 2nd millennium to Middle Ages.

The MA in Classics & Ancient Civilizations: Classics offers a broad approach to Antiquity through the integration of classical languages and ancient cultural history. We have strong expertise in Hellenistic literature, Greek linguistics, Greek religion, Latin poetry of the early Empire, and Literature in its spatial and socio-cultural context. The Institute of Archaeology and the Rothberg School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem invites students from all over the world to study the history and culture of the Land of the Bible, in the Bronze and Iron Ages, through archaeology, text, and ancient languages. The rich program incorporates both studies in the classroom and in the field, as the students are required to participate in major excavations and surveys conducted by top researchers of the Institute.

This Classics and the Ancient World MA focuses on the literature, language, and culture of the ancient world and their later reception. In this degree, you can explore classical texts and thought in their ancient context to think about how the classical world has been reflected in later periods and consider how the ancient world has shaped the modern.

The master's degree in Ancient Cultures and Languages is unique in Europe, due to its specific character and course structure. It provides instruction in the three fundamental ancient languages ' Greek, Latin and Hebrew ' and offers the chance to specialize in the cultures of two geographical areas of the ancient world, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, which were immersed in a process of 'fruitful interaction' for many centuries. The course plots a course from the origins of Mesopotamian civilization to the present day, taking in the languages, scripts and cultural manifestations of the ancient world.

Hebrew University’s Rothberg International School (RIS) offers a two-year M.A. program in the Bible and the Ancient Near East. This program focuses on contemporary Biblical studies (Hebrew scriptures) and provides grounding in both Biblical Hebrew and Akkadian, with the option to study Modern Hebrew at the beginner through advanced levels.
