The MAc program is designed to train highly skilled acupuncture practitioners who are capable of working successfully in the contemporary health care system — either as independent health care providers or as part of a collaborative health care team — and to provide in-depth coursework for lifelong learning and professional development.

The Acupuncture program combines well planned academic course work with broad clinical experiences, leading to a Master’s level Acupuncture Certificate.

Acupuncture has been recognized as a specialty in the health area since 1985, it is an integral part of the set of therapies classified since 2006 as “Complementary Integrative Practice” - PIC, but it has been part of the therapeutic arsenal at the three levels of health care for much longer. It consists of inserting needles in specific points of the body, associated with other forms of stimulation of these points (such as suction cups, heating, electrostimulation, low-power laser, etc.), and it has been practiced for millennia. The first historical findings of its use in the treatment of disease date back more than 4,000 years. From the 1960s on, acupuncture began to be understood in a scientific way in academic circles, through the theories of neuromodulation and immunological response to treatment.

Our Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) program offers comprehensive training in the ancient traditions of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The four-year degree program is steeped in classical training and practices and is centred around each student’s cultivation and growth.

The Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MSAOM) degree program is designed to provide a comprehensive professional education in acupuncture and Oriental medicine that prepares graduates to practice in clinical settings. This program is combined with instruction in biomedicine and emphasizes an integrative and holistic approach to healthcare. Graduates of the MSAOM program become eligible to take the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) licensure examination and the California Acupuncture Board (CAB) licensure examination.

Students awarded the MACM degree will receive comprehensive training in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

The goal of the Master of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (MAOM) program is to train you to become a licensed acupuncturist.

The goal of the Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization (MAc) is to train individuals to become a licensed acupuncturist. Students who complete the prescribed course of study at the American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) will be awarded a Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization (MAc) degree upon completion of its requirements.

The Master of Acupuncture program is almost identical to the Oriental Medicine program but does not include herbal studies. This program includes 2,678 clock hours of instruction and may be completed in two and two-thirds calendar years (eight consecutive trimesters). This program must be completed within six years from the date of matriculation.
