The Double Master’s in Policies & Governance in Europe (PAGE) will provide you with an in-depth understanding of major political and economic developments in Europe and of the analytical approaches developed to account for them. You will study at two of the most highly ranked universities in Europe in the field of politics and international studies:  Luiss, 19th in the world in the 2024 QS Elsevier Subject Ranking, and King’s College London, 12th in the world and 5th in Europe in the 2024 QS Elsevier Subject Ranking. 

In MA Japanese Studies (Dual Degree Programme) the Department of Japan and Korea at SOAS University of London and Sophia University's Graduate Program in Global Studies (GPGS) have launched this Dual Degree Programme (DDP) which allows students to benefit from the combined resources of two of the world's leading institutions in Japanese Studies, located in two major global cities – Tokyo and London.

The MA in Japanese Studies at SOAS is the most comprehensive available anywhere in Europe. You are able to choose modules that cover Japan’s history from the pre-modern era to the present, and range over the social and political sciences as well as humanities. Students who take this programme come from many countries and have a wide variety of academic backgrounds.

The World History & Cultures MA offers a deep dive into global interactions and transnational histories across continents. You can study topics like empires or focus on specific regions. With optional modules from King's and London partner institutions, the course offers flexibility and expert training in historical research.

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, tourism accounted for 10% of global GDP in 2017, with more than 313 million people working in the industry.

Our European Studies MA course will give you a detailed understanding of the politics, history, economy and societies of Europe. As a full-time student, you may also take either a French or German pathway, which offers you the opportunity to complete a master’s degree within a year while taking modules abroad. Places on these pathways have separate capacity restrictions.

The MA Anthropology of Food programme offers you the opportunity to explore historically and culturally variable foodways, from foraging to industrial food, from Asia, Africa and the Middle East to Europe and the Americas. You will study the passage of food from plant to palate, and examine who benefits, and who suffers, from contemporary modes of food production, exchange, preparation and consumption.

The Contemporary Art and the Moving Image MA is a collaborative master's degree offered jointly by King’s College London and the Courtauld Institute of Art. This innovative course explores the past and present of visual culture and the moving image in art.

King’s contains one of the largest concentrations of medievalists in the UK, bringing together scholars in medieval history, languages, literature and culture, with expertise across Europe and Asia. Our MA in Medieval Studies not only offers specialist training in crucial research skills—in particular, medieval Latin and palaeography—but also is outward-looking, exploring and critiquing the place of medieval history and perceptions of the medieval past in the world today.

MA Iranian Studies and Intensive Language is a unique programme, run by very few universities worldwide. At SOAS, you’ll have the benefit of studying in the centre of London, have the opportunity to learn Persian and other Middle Eastern languages, and link with research centres such as the Centre for Iranian Studies and the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies.

Our MA in Contemporary British History course will provide you with training in and experience in the historical analysis of issues that are central to understanding contemporary Britain. While we focus on the study of British history over the past century, we also recognise that you can’t understand British history without reference to other countries and regions, in particular the Empire/Commonwealth, Europe and North America.

The Creative Writing: Writing the City MA is the only Creative Writing MA course to focus entirely on the city of London. It will allow you to explore the city as a subject matter from a range of perspectives and across all genres. It will also give you a theoretical and practical platform from which to develop your understanding and become part of the London writing scene. Taught by professional writers and researchers, our course offers plenty of opportunities to network with other writers, agents, TV producers and performance poets. As part of the MA, you'll be part of the team managing the Wells Street Journal, our student-led in-house magazine. You'll be based in the University's headquarters building at 309 Regent Street, which means you'll be writing about the city in the heart of London, with ready access to the capital's excellent academic, social and cultural opportunities, including the vibrant West End theatre scene. You can begin in January or in September. To receive your Master's award, you'll need to complete taught modules for a total of 120 credits, covered by three 40-credit core modules, and the 60-credit Writing Project (giving a total of 180 credits). The workshop-based structure of the course will allow you to learn through interactive practice. Classes are weekly and normally last two or three hours. Teaching will also include visits to selected London institutions to support certain aspects of writing, and you'll be encouraged to use various archives, theatres and galleries. Assessment methods include coursework portfolios, reflective logs, essays, and workshop leader, as well as the 10-12,000-word writing project. There are no formal exams.

The Joint LLM/MA in Environmental Justice by SOAS and NLUD offers critical expertise in environmental law and policy, focusing on South Asia. Study in London and New Delhi to gain global and regional insights, developing the skills needed to tackle urgent environmental challenges and drive meaningful change.

The Ancient History MA offers an advanced study of Greek, Roman, and Near-Eastern history. With one required module on historical analysis techniques, you’ll have the flexibility to choose from a variety of optional modules and complete a dissertation on a topic of your choice. This University of London intercollegiate course combines expertise from King’s, UCL, Royal Holloway, and the Institute of Classical Studies, giving you access to top-tier academics and a wide range of modules.

SOAS’s MA History and Intensive Language programme is one of the few UK Master-level degrees in History which focuses on the histories of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. With its high concentration of expertise of these regions, the programme offers an unrivalled breadth of courses on these regions’ respective as well as interconnected histories. It can also be taken with an intensive language pathway over two years, therefore making this programme unique in Europe.
