The MA Screenwriting course offers students a unique opportunity to develop screenwriting principles, including genre theory, audience and markets, classical and alternative narrative storytelling, pitching and screenplay analysis. Students will hone professional skills and develop their creative voice toward a final original piece of writing for the large or small screen.

MA Screenwriting is designed to enable you to develop the skills and understanding needed to work as a writer in today’s screen industries. You will gain advanced insight into the work of a screenwriter – a deep understanding of screen storytelling and professional scripts, working across a variety of screen platforms and industry contexts, writing short-form and feature-length scripts, the writer’s role as initiator and enabler, professional working practices and employment strategies.

An intensive one-year program that develops the writer’s original voice, embeds professional practice, and enhances employability. At LFS you will gain expertise and experience that form the foundations of your professional screenwriting practice. You will forge relationships and develop networks that propel you into the film and television industries.

Boston University's MFA in Screenwriting offers the best of the east and west coasts -- 3 semesters in Boston to build the skills, experience, and community to launch a career in the television and film industry as a scriptwriter, and the 4th (and final) semester in Los Angeles with an industry internship and networking with our LA-based alumni. The Master in International Screenwriting and Production (MISP) is a postgraduate master's program that aims at creating professionals working in the entertainment business (mainly screenwriters, story editors, and producers), providing them with a thorough understanding of the audio-visual industry and a strong knowledge of the storytelling techniques, which are the heart of every project of feature film and television series.

The MA program in Writing & Directing for Film is a streamlined training in the development and direction of an original short film or extended scene. Students go through the development process and are mentored through preproduction, production, and postproduction on their thesis project/scene. Students also learn to brand themselves and their work in preparation for the marketplace.

The Creative Writing: Writing the City MA is the only Creative Writing MA course to focus entirely on the city of London. It will allow you to explore the city as a subject matter from a range of perspectives and across all genres. It will also give you a theoretical and practical platform from which to develop your understanding and become part of the London writing scene. Taught by professional writers and researchers, our course offers plenty of opportunities to network with other writers, agents, TV producers and performance poets. As part of the MA, you'll be part of the team managing the Wells Street Journal, our student-led in-house magazine. You'll be based in the University's headquarters building at 309 Regent Street, which means you'll be writing about the city in the heart of London, with ready access to the capital's excellent academic, social and cultural opportunities, including the vibrant West End theatre scene. You can begin in January or in September. To receive your Master's award, you'll need to complete taught modules for a total of 120 credits, covered by three 40-credit core modules, and the 60-credit Writing Project (giving a total of 180 credits). The workshop-based structure of the course will allow you to learn through interactive practice. Classes are weekly and normally last two or three hours. Teaching will also include visits to selected London institutions to support certain aspects of writing, and you'll be encouraged to use various archives, theatres and galleries. Assessment methods include coursework portfolios, reflective logs, essays, and workshop leader, as well as the 10-12,000-word writing project. There are no formal exams.
