In the changing world of contemporary filmmaking, there is an increasing range of possibilities for future storytelling across different media and platforms. The School of Digital Arts' (SODA) MA Filmmaking course explores filmmaking within a wide range of professional contexts.

The programme in MA Film offers a thorough grounding in postgraduate-level film. We are happy to consider applications from applicants with a background in either film or a related humanities subject. The MA Film programme is taught by experts in Film and seeks to engage you with the key elements that make up the diverse nature of film and moving images.

The MA Cinematography course allows students to gain the knowledge and specialist skills required to be a cinematographer in today’s creative industries, engaging in a range of practical workshops and seminars to enhance their creative and technical skillset.

Our online MA Film Practice will empower you with the creative knowledge and skills you need to firmly establish yourself as a highly-skilled and successful filmmaker. Study at your own pace with our part-time online filmmaking course while you master what it takes to produce films that inspire, challenge, and engage audiences. Delivered by acclaimed filmmakers, our MA Film Practice will challenge you to think outside of the box and push your creative limits, unleashing your potential as a professional filmmaker.

The MA Directing course equips students with a comprehensive skill set to work across all screen platforms – film, television, commercials, and online. During their studies, students will complete a unique industry project which will provide the experience of working with external clients.

A bridge between undergraduate study and the professional world, MA/MFA Performance allows for the development and consolidation of new creative practices. The MA/MFA Performance is an exciting master's program that offers a practical, versatile, and interdisciplinary approach to performance-making and training. The program provides students with an advanced and practical understanding of current performance practices, drawing on a broad range of artistic and theoretical influences.

Our MA Filmmaking is a non-specialist degree, training students in a variety of craft areas. Taught within small crews and units, we welcome students from over 40 countries. This programme is offered three times a year, with entry points in January, May and September.

This MA Directing will give you contemporary, practical training, to become an integral part of the next generation of theatre directors.  Through skills classes and project-based learning, you will be given the time, resources and rehearsal room access you need to develop your craft. 

MA Musical Theatre: Acting and Performance Our MA Musical Theatre: Acting and Performance course is an intensive, one-year training program designed around the key musical theatre skills of acting, singing, and dance/movement. At the heart of the course is a focus on acting skills for musical theatre both in sung and spoken text.

The MA Screenwriting course offers students a unique opportunity to develop screenwriting principles, including genre theory, audience and markets, classical and alternative narrative storytelling, pitching and screenplay analysis. Students will hone professional skills and develop their creative voice toward a final original piece of writing for the large or small screen.

Our Global Film MA will give you a sophisticated understanding of films as systems of meaning and practice. Explore film as both a transnational and locally embedded medium and discover more about the different ways we engage with it.

The MA Producing course offers students a unique opportunity to develop the necessary skills to become the next generation of entrepreneurs in the screen business world. The programme aims to provide an insight into, and mastery of, creative development, physical production, and business and finance in relation to the creative screen industries.

The MA Music programme provides theoretical and practical grounding in the discipline of ethnomusicology, as well as the opportunity to develop performance and ethnographic skills. On this programme students gain a practical understanding of how music can work in the sphere of social development and an in-depth study of global musical styles.
